Cicakman goes to Indonesia
November 20, 2008      Categories: News

KRU Films’ latest instalment, Cicakman 2: Planet Hitam, will make history as the first local movie to have a grand opening in Indonesia.

The movie will be shown in 25 Indonesian cinemas in January next year — a record for a local movie so far.

"For a greenhorn in the local film industry like KRU Films, I think this is an achievement that we can be proud of," said KRU Films executive producer, Norman Abdul Halim, recently.

Cicakman 2: Planet Hitam is the sequel to the blockbuster Cicakman, which created history by collecting a record-breaking RM350,000 on its opening day and hit the RM2 million mark within four days of its release, making it the biggest local box-office hit in recent years.

The sequel to the movie will be screened nationwide and also in Singapore and Brunei on Dec 11.

Directed by Yusry Abdul Halim, Cicakman 2 features Saiful Apek, Sharifah Amani, Aznil Nawawi, Linda Onn, Yusry, Adlin Aman Ramli, AC Mizal and Fasha Sandha among others.

The movie also features Indonesian actress Tamara Blaszenky as the new villain lead.

"Tamara's involvement is one of the strategies that we implemented to penetrate the Indonesian market. She's an amazing actress. We are overwhelmed to have her in the movie," said Norman.

He added a collaboration with Indonesian composer Melly Goeslow had also helped.

"The theme song, Dibius Cinta, is actually a duet by Melly and Yusry. The song has been receiving good response here and in Indonesia," said Norman, adding that it took about seven months for the movie to be completed at a cost of RM2.5 million.

Cicakman 2 recently had its world premiere screening at the 13th Pusan International Film Festival in South Korea, where 80 international movies were screened.
