RESIDENTS of dengue hot spots in Kuala Lumpur are advised to ensure that their environment is taken care of properly, including ridding their areas of any potential breeding grounds for aedes mosquitos.

In a statement, Kuala Lumpur City Hall said the affected areas include PPR Taman Mulia, PPR Desa Tun Razak, Taman Setapak Jaya (Jalan Rejang 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10), Keramat Wangsa (Kelumpuk Kuang, Kelumpuk Teratai, Menara Merak Kayangan), PPR Air Panas, Bandar Baru Sentul (Menara Orkid) and Sri Selangor Flats.

WATER supply to several areas in Selangor will be affected on March 11, 12, 16 and 17 due to pipe removal and replacement, says Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas).

IN conjunction with Le Tour de Langkawi 2010, some parts of the Cheras-Kajang Highway will be closed from 10.15am to 10.45am on March 6.

The affected stretch will be from Kuala Lumpur to the Hulu Langat Interchange (Exit 702) and traffic will be diverted to use the Telekom Interchange (Exit 703) and the road will be partially closed from Kajang and Simpang Balak (Exit 707A) to Kuala Lumpur.

THERE will be a temporary night closure of the slip road from Sprint Highway's Damansara Link to Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong (next to Tropicana City Mall) from March 3 to 13, daily between midnight and 5.30am.

THE Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) will initiate court action from March 1 against motorists who have yet to settle their parking compound notices.

However, the local authority will be giving a 30 per cent discount for each compound settled from March 1 to April 30, 2010.

This carrot-and-stick campaign is to give an opportunity to offenders to pay their compounds before being hauled to court.

" The US Embassy introduced a new online non-immigrant visa application form (DS- 160) on Feb 15, 2010.

THE Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) will be conducting an environmental seminar on Feb 23 at 8.45am at its Level 4 Auditorium.

There will be talks by Mazlan Idrus, a marine officer from the Selangor Water Administration Boad (LUAS), and Prof Datuk Dr Kamarudin Mohd Nor from Universiti Malaya.

The seminar will also detail the council's plan in developing the MPAJ Environment Policy. Those expected to attend are MPAJ councillors, representatives of residents associations, and the public.

The Road Safety Department has initiated a "Jump Q" operation to create awareness on the dangers of overtaking on double lines.

Its director-general, Datuk Suret Singh, said the operation was done in collaboration with the police and Road Safety Marshal Club, a non-governmental organisation under the patronage of Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong  Tee Keat.

Urging motorists to use public transport as a way to reduce accidents, he said under the operation, members of the club would counsel offenders while police issued summonses for overtaking on double lines.

The current hot weather in the country is a normal phenomenon and is expected to end next month, according to the Meteorological Department.

Forecaster Azmi Atan said this phenomenon often occurs early in the year but would not lead to drought.

BE wary of individuals or groups posing as officers from Ampang Jaya Municipal Council.

This is due to a recent complaint lodged by a shop owner who reported about individuals claiming to be council representatives.

They had demanded RM650 from the shop owner for each of the banners displayed and asked him to pay to a bank account on the same day.

The council wishes to clarify that its staff are not allowed to receive cash from the public.

In a Press statement, the council reminded the public not to make payments to anyone claiming to be MPAJ officers.

GET your train tickets fast if you are returning to your hometowns for the Chinese New Year holidays.

KTM Berhad said tickets for journeys to the north, east and south between Feb 10 and 13 are selling out. Up to Feb 3, only 8,788 out of 37,824 tickets are left.

However, there are still plenty of tickets available for train journeys between Feb 14 and 21.

Altogether, KTM has allocated 91,032 tickets for journeys between Feb 10 and 21.

GOOD news for Touch n Go users!

From this month, purchase and reload of Touch n’ Go cards can be done at Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong's (LDP) Petaling Jaya Selatan toll lay-by (North-bound near the Esso station) and at  SPRINT's Bukit Kiara toll plaza (KL-bound).

These dedicated counters will provide greater convenience for road users and increase electronic toll collection usage on both highways.

The Touch n’ Go point-of-sale centres are open on Monday to Thursday from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

On Friday the hours are 8.30am to 5.15pm.

Part of the Tun Sambanthan/ Taman Seputeh bridge across Jalan Syed Putra in Kuala Lumpur will be
closed from tomorrow (Thursday) until March 18 for the construction of a new road connecting to the bridge, Kuala Lumpur City Hall said.

In a statement, City Hall said that during the closure, motorists going to Taman Seputeh could use alternative routes such as Jalan Tun Sambanthan 2, Jalan Thambi Abdullah 1 and Jalan Tun Sambanthan 1 before heading to Taman Seputeh.

SYARIKAT Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) will be cutting off water supply to several areas in Kuala Selangor from tomorrow as pipes will be removed in order to repair the narrow bridge at Seksyen 2, the pathway from B33 Jalan Kuala Selangor to Batang Berjuntai.

The cut off is from 9pm on Jan 20 to 5am on Jan 21, and the affected areas are Pekan Kuala Selangor, Assam Jawa, Pasir Tuntung, Pekan Sungai Buloh Jeram, Sungai Junggut, Sungai Sembilang and Kampung Suara.

Consumers are advised to store adequate amounts of water as well as use it smartly during the period.

It will involve the lower deck route from the Federal Highway to Damansara and Hartamas, from 11.50pm on Jan 21 to 6am on Jan 22.

The upper deck route from Damansara and Hartamas to the Federal Highway will be affected from 11.50pm on Jan 25 to 6am on Jan 26, and 11.50pm on Jan 26 to 6am on Jan 27.
