PETALING JAYA: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein earlier this week said there were some bloggers, unlike local journalists, who do not adhere to rules and ethics of journalism in their bid to garner popularity.

The Malay Mail asked several veteran bloggers for their view on the statement, blogging and journalism, and if they adhere to a code of ethics.

SHAHRIZAT. With practically everyone who matters on Facebook these days, it's not surprising that even serious political overtures are made through the social networking site. According to media reports, the Wanita Umno chief has invited Pas women leaders for talks on Malay unity.

"I shall as soon as possible issue an invitation to the Pas Dewan Muslimat head for us women leaders to meet and discuss the best and most sincere way to ensure that unity among Muslims in this country remains intact ... I hope the Dewan Muslimat head will accept my invitation."

THE socio-polical (SoPo) blogs and bloggers:

Are they really a significant new force in national politics, or are they just overhyped and overrated?

There are certainly many sceptics of the SoPo blogosphere’s level of influence.

These are people who have doubts as to whether the blogs really make much impact in shaping the population’s view.

And it doesn’t matter how well the posts are written, nor the number of visitors and participants.
