HAVANA: Qatar and Cuba yesterday launched a joint US$75 million (RM265 million) project to create a five-star resort on the Caribbean island, officials said. The gas-rich Gulf State is set to become the first Arab country to invest in Cuba’s booming tourism sector, after representatives inked the deal in Havana. The 450-room upscale hotel complex is to be built in the south of the island and is expected to be completed by 2015.

PORT Dickson Municipal Council town planning department director Ahmad Hashim Bakar confirmed that no approval has been given for the project as the developer has yet to submit the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report.

AS you approach Port Dickson, the first thing that will hit you is the stench. No, this is not from the filthy, unkempt beach that is now synonymous with the port town or the uncollected refuse near the bus stand in the town centre. This is different.

PLANS are on track to inject more life into the nation’s administrative capital Putrajaya, Perbadanan Putrajaya president Tan Sri Samsudin Osman said yesterday.

Plans are in the pipeline for development of the area and are slated to be completed by 2015.

“There are plans to build more commercial centres near government buildings to make the place livelier.” Samsudin was responding to a Malay Mail query on what was being done to create more activity in the town— which pretty much turns quiet after 6pm.
