KUALA LUMPUR: There is no indication yet of a second wave of the Influenza A (H1N1) occurring, said the Director-General of Health Services, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican.

He said this was based on the monitoring of H1N1 clinical cases as well as the clusters of influenze-like ilnesses (ILI).

However, he said the risk of the second wave occurring was still there because Malaysians were still susceptible to such infection.

THE first three batches of the Influenza A (H1N1) vaccine have arrived in Malaysia and these have been  distributed to all States.

 

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Rashid Shirlin told Malay Mail that 46,000 doses arrived in two shipments on Nov 3 and 9.

NO deaths were reported last week due to Influenza A (H1N1), leaving the death toll due to the disease so far to remain at 77 people.

However, a total of 838 new patients were hospitalised for infl uenza-like illness (ILI) while 884 cases were discharged (for ILI) last week.

As of Oct 24, a total of 465 ILI cases were still getting treatment at 66 hospitals nationwide,at four private hospitals.

No new admission of Influenza A (H1N1) patients to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was reported yesterday.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican, however, said 167 new patients with symptoms of influenza like illness (ILI) had been hospitalised for treatment and 166 of them had been discharged.

“The current number of ILI cases still under treatment nationwide is 699 at 80 hospitals, with seven of the patients in private hospitals,” he added.

INFLUENZA A (H1N1) is still active and spreading in the community despite a reduction in cases of late.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said the people should take precautions, abide by
the guidelines set by the ministry and refrain from going to crowded areas.

The death toll has remained at 77, and 123 in uenza-like illness (ILI) patients were admitted to hospitals yesterday, while 106 were discharged.

THE welcome news of no Influenza A (H1N1)-related deaths since Sept 19 shouldn’t be any reason to ease up on precautionary measures, said the Health Ministry’s disease control division director Datuk Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman.

As long as the World Health Organisation (WHO) still deems it a pandemic, all local efforts to curb infections will be continued.

AS of yesterday, the country’s fatality toll from the Influenza A (H1N1) virus remains at 77 with no new death recorded since last Friday.

Director-general of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said 192 new patients with influenza-like illness
(ILI) were admitted to hospitals.

Of these, 150 patients had been confirmed as H1N1 cases and 25 of them were being treated in intensive care
units (ICU).

NO death related to Influenza A (H1N1) was reported on Tuesday, while 96 people with symptoms of influenza were hospitalised, director-general of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said

He said 65 people had been discharged and of the number being treated for influenza-like illness (ILI), 177 patients or one-third had been confirmed as H1N1 cases, with 26 of them being treated at intensive care units.

The remaining 618 ILI cases were being treated at 80 hospitals nationwide, including nine private hospitals, Dr Ismail said.

NO new Influenza A (H1N1) death was reported yesterday, with the number of fatalities from the disease remaining at 77.

The director-general of Health, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican, said 219 new influenza-like illness cases were admitted to hospitals yesterday.

He advised the people to continue observing the H1N1 safety guidelines. Any individual who felt unwell with influenza-like symptoms should seek immediate medical treatment.
