NADARAJAH of Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, is anxious about the out-of-order traffic lights at a pedestrian crossing in Jalan Maarof, Bangsar.

"I work in a restaurant near the pedestrian crossing and I have witnessed many times the difficulties people face while trying to cross the road due to the faulty traffic lights which has not been working for over a week," he says.

"On many occasions, I have gone out of the restaurant to assist elderly people to cross the road as I cannot bear watching them risking their lives."

KUALA Lumpur City Hall Workers’ Union supports the plan by Mayor Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail to use City Hall employees to carry out landscaping and the growing of plants in the city rather than outsource the task to third party contractors.

Union secretary A. Munian in a faxed statement to Malay Mail yesterday said the union lauded the plan as City Hall was capable of beautifying the city on its own using its own workers.

IN December last year, then Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique announced the freeze on all developments on hillslopes, with a gradient of more than 35 degrees in KL, Putrajaya and Labuan.

The ministry had also last year frozen hillslope projects on a gradient of 26 to 35 degrees until a new guideline on proper planning, design and control system is drafted by the government.

NORJIHAN Mohd Abdullah, 55, who has lost her leg, got a bit of cheer yesterday, courtesy of Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

Totally dependent on a wheelchair for mobility, Norjihan lives with her husband at a City Hall housing project in Cheras. With the household depen ding on the income of a single breadwinner, the family is really grateful to receive the donation, which will help to get Norjihan a prosthetic leg.

Her daughter, Mehrulezah Ahmad, 29, too is in need of funds for surgery on her four-month-old son’s cleft palate, which will cost about RM8,000.
