JAKARTA: At least four people were killed and about 40 others believed to be still buried following a landslide at Ciwidey, 90km south of Bandung, West Java this morning.

The incident was believed to have occurred at about 8am West Indonesian time following continuous rain for the past one week in the area, which is also a tea plantation.

Several houses occupied by 35 families working in the tea plantation were reported buried by the landslide, said a police officer in Pasir Jambu, Bandung District, Sub-Inspector Yayan Mulyana, when contacted by Bernama from here.

THE Selangor government is taking steps to declassify confidential reports on hillslopes in Bukit Antarabangsa and the surrounding areas, including high risk landslide spots.

The declassification move, if successful, would be a first that the public (especially those potentially affected) is given access to information that had until now been classified as confidential.

WHILE on the way back home after his night shift ended early yesterday morning, an auditor was thanking his lucky stars that he hadn't left work any earlier.
Driving back about an hour after the 2am landslide at Bukit Kanching in Rawang, Azharin Rauzi, 35, wondered why there was a huge number of police personnel in the area.
It was only when he drove closer that he saw the pile of earth blocking the Rawang-Selayang federal road in front of him.

A LANDSLIDE, believed to have been triggered by the last two days of rain, brought tonnes of earth crashing down at Km12 of the Kuala Lumpur-Rawang road early today.

The earth covered a stretch of some 200 metres of the road,  forcing it to be cut off.

AT least 36 people were killed in western parts of the country on Tuesday due to landslides and floods triggered by incessant rain since the last couple of days, China's Xinhua news agency said quoting The Kathmandu Post's reports on Wednesday.

According to the daily, 12 people, including seven children, were killed at the Gorkhagaon settlement in Dadeldhura district, some 525 km west of Kathmandu, when a landslide buried two houses in the area.

Manila: At least 12 people were killed and 15 missing in landslides and floods triggered by a storm battering the eastern Philippines, the Office of Civil Defence (OCD) said yesterday.

Seven of the dead were buried in mud when the side of a hill collapsed on a village in Magallanes town in Sorsogon province.

The OCD said 15 people were missing in the landslide. Rescuers were continuing to search for victims, but bad weather was hampering operations.
