PUTRAJAYA: Low salary scales and high cost of living are not the main factor for corruption among the support group in the civil service, according to a survey by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission
(MACC).

On the contrary, corruption is caused by individuals' own weaknesses such as greed and having the desire to live in wealth and luxury despite not having the means to attain them.

KOTA KINABALU: The High Court here Thursday dismissed an appeal by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against a Sessions Court's decision to acquit and discharge former Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Yusoff, on a charge of ordering the use of a police aircraft for his personal interest, nearly three years ago.

SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Selangor branch will install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to record statements of people who are called up, said its director Datuk Ja'afar Mahad.

He said this was in line with the use of CCTVs by the MACC throughout the country beginning this year.

KOTA BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has given an assurance that there will be no exception in the corruption probe on Kelantan Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat involving the sponsorship for pilgrimage and the irregularities claimed to have occurred in the Kelantan Menteri Besar Incorporated (PMBK).

MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Zakaria Jaffar said no one could be considered as an "exception" in such a case as this, including the  Menteri Besar and the investigation would be carried out according to the law.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will issue a statement tomorrow on the progress of its investigation into the arrest of a former political secretary to a senior minister, Hasbie Satar, caught with RM2 million at his apartment in Teluk Air Tawar, Butterworth, last week.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdull told The Malay Mail this via a text message.

However, he declined to confirm nor deny when asked if the minister would also be questioned.

PENANG: Fifteen public servants were among 50 people detained last year by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Penang to facilitate investigations.

Most of them were allegedly linked to misuse of power and forged documents, state MACC director Latifah Md Yatim said today.

She said that of the 759 leads received last year, 72 were investigated, leading to the arrest of 50 people.

TEMERLOH: Another witness in the corruption trial of former Federal Territory Umno Youth head Datuk Mohamad Norza Zakaria and his agent, Halimi Kamaruzzaman, told the Sessions Court here that his statement to a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) earlier was inaccurate.

Pahang Special Affairs Department (JASA) director Yusof Jamaludin, who is the 10th prosecution witness, claimed that several of his requests to amend the statement was not done properly by the MACC officers when he was questioned at the Temerloh MACC office on Jan 20 last year.

This is how national anti-graft watchdogs and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) advisory panelists feel about support letters for projects issued by Cabinet ministers and senior government officers.

Such support letters must be put to a stop, they say.
