KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Wanita secretary-general Senator Heng Seai Kie announced today that she would be going for a central committee (CC) post at the upcoming party elections on March 28.

"I believe as a CC member, I can still contribute to the party and the nation," Heng said when contacted by Bernama today.

She said this when asked whether she would be vying for any of the top posts in the party like the vice president's post.

KUALA LUMPUR: Embattled MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat hinted today he would recontest in the party's fresh polls set for March 28.

During the launch of the party's 56th annual general meeting (AGM), he said he was obliged to carry on with his reform agenda in the party.

Ong was elected president in October 2008 for a three-year term.

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat officiated the party's 56th annual general meeting here, reminding delegates that the party, which is set to hold fresh polls in three weeks, was up against "a
bitter test".

The AGM began at 10am with more than 600 of the 2,387 delegates having registered for the meeting and the number of delegates kept rising, going past 800 an hour later.

KUALA LUMPUR: Even as the dust has hardly settled following the shocking resignation yesterday of 21 MCA Central Committee (CC)members, power brokers and political forces in the second largest Barisan Nasional (BN) party are already brokering deals on who should go for the presidency in the fresh party polls set for March 28.

The resignation of the 21 CC members barely two days to the party's 61st anniversary has forced the fresh polls, required by the party constitution to be held within 30 days should two-thirds of the 31 elected CC members resign.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) Youth annual general meeting scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed to a later date. The decision to reschedule was made in view of the latest developments in the party, said party Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong after chairing the wing’s central committee members meeting here this morning.

The committee, he added, had also taken into consideration the pros and cons before arriving at the decision.

KUALA LUMPUR: Embattled MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said he will announce his next move in due course in the wake of the shocking en bloc resignations of 21 elected central committee (CC) members to force fresh party polls.

"I would like to thank my supporters and well-wishers for the calls, emails and text messages for their words of encouragement. I will meet my supporters and team in due course and will announce a decision in due course," he wrote in his blog.

PETALING JAYA: An MCA Member of Parliament said to be one of the MPs planning to quit the party when the Barisan Nasional (BN) constitution is amended to allow direct membership, finds it all amusing.

Youth chief and Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Wee Ka Siong laughed it off when asked for comments.

The Deputy Education Minister said, “I admire those who spun the story. I would like to meet the person with this super imaginative power to come up with this speculation.”

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Vice-President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai urged the party's leadership to allow delegates to debate resolutions, including the proposal to amend party constitution, to be tabled at the party's
Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 7.

He said the delegates had the rights to debate the proposal before the Central Committee (CC), the party's decision-making body, make its decision.

"The delegates have sent in their resolutions so it should be tabled and debated at the AGM.

president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.

"To date, what I can say is it is still premature to make conclusive remarks, but suffice to say this definitely has been  brought up for discussion and has been explored.

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat yesterday said the political style of DAP leader Lim Kit Siang in making Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders to be at logger-heads had not changed.

He said an allegation by Lim recently that Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin could not get along with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was not something new being that it was his (Lim) style of politics.
