PERODUA Myvi owners will have  to wait till next year to get their cars fixed for free at Perodua service centres
to prevent airbag thefts.

“The field-fix will only be ready in January and we will brief all Perodua service centres on the necessary details starting next month.

Only then can Myvi owners receive the free upgrades at the respective service centres,” said Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd operations director Suhaimi Anuar.

FOLLOWING a number of reported Myvi airbag thefts in recent months, which led to the discovery of a security weakness, all Myvi models manufactured from January next year will come pre-installed with an improved alarm system to address the issue.

SHOCK and surprise — that was what civil engineering student Ivan Tan, 21, felt when he got into his Myvi one morning, only to realise both the front airbag fittings — in the dashboard and at the steering wheel — were gone!

Recounting his experience to Malay Mail, he said: “I remember parking my car at about 8pm on the second level of my condominium, Platinium L
