AUCKLAND: Landlords in New Zealand are looking forward to new legislation that comes into effect in November to allow them to complain against property agents if tenants trash the rented properties.

Under New Zealand's Real Estate Agents (Licensing) Regulations 2009, all real estate agents will have to apply for licences to continue operating.

Complaints made by landlords against the property agents will be reviewed by a tribunal, and if found valid, the agent's licence would be suspended, the New Zealand Herald reported.

IPOH is confronted with the difficult task of keeping hundreds of vacant properties from becoming an eyesore – and as well as nests for rodents, snakes and insects. Such properties with overgrown bushes and lallang are seen not only in the outskirts but also within the city, including some elite residential areas.

This causes a setback to the city council’s efforts to eradicate dengue as the premises can be breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes.
