THE closure of Jalan Tanjung Bandar Utama, a major artery linking Bandar Utama with several Tropicana developments, has raised residents’ concern of a chaotic traffic situation if nothing is done to prevent it.

SEVERAL roads will be closed from 6am to 1pm on Saturday, the nomination day for the Penanti State by-election. Penang Traffic staff officer DSP Wari Kiew said the closure was to ensure smooth nominations for the by-election, which would be held at the National Youth Skills Institute in Bukit Mertajam. The roads affected are Jalan Berapit in front of the Berapit Chinese cemetery and the Jalan Berapit-Jalan Mengkuang junction.

A PORTION of the road at the Salak Jaya toll plaza will be closed from today till June 12. Work to demolish the toll plaza will be conducted during this period.

SEVERAL major roads in Kuala Lumpur will be closed in stages from 2.30pm on Sunday for the Tour of Malaysia 2009 cycling race.

City police said the roads are Lebuh Ampang, Lebuh Pasar Besar, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

City police have also fixed different routes for buses and other vehicles taking fans of the Kelantan and Selangor teams to the FA Cup football final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.
