KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Geek Hoon, 41, can finally lead a normal life now after a successful heart transplant at the National Heart Institute (IJN) yesterday.

A heart, kept in a special storage box, was flown in by a Royal Malaysian Navy's Fennec helicopter from Ipoh Hospital to IJN on Tuesday.

Since November 2008, Tan has been surviving by using a mechanical heart assist device.

THE Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) is set to replace the gutted KD Sri Inderapura with a similar amphibious
ship from the South Korean Navy.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told Malay Mail last Wednesday that the ship was expected to join the RMN fleet by next year.

LIKE the rest of the Armed Forces, the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) is undertaking cost-cutting measures
to reduce its management and operational costs due to lower annual defence spending.

RMN chief Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar said the navy was committed to prudent and cost-effective financial plannning to save costs.
