PETALING JAYA: Resident s of Batu Arang, Selangor, were relieved when the Selangor Agricultural Development Board (PKPS) stated that the remaining 490ha of Rantau Panjang Forest Reserve would not be cut down, at least for now.

A PKPS spokesperson said they did not see the need to cut down the trees at this time, but may need to cut  them down later to help fulfill the country's quota for timber exports.

"If we find a need to cut the trees, we will immediately replant the cleared area."

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Umno liaison committee deputy chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar has dismissed claim that the state Umno was split, with one faction led by him, and the other by former menteri besar Datuk
Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo.

He said the claim made by Seri Muda assemblyman Shuhaimi Shafiei of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) was aimed at diverting the people's attention from the opposition's internal crisis.

SELANGOR police chief DCP Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the crime-rate in the State till September this year, compared with last year, has dipped by a slight 6.21 per cent.

 

“There were 2,568 fewer cases reported this year, compared with last year.”

Khalid said the crime-solving rate has increased six per cent this year (46 per cent solved cases compared with 40 per cent last year).

THE Selangor State government has approved the setting aside of 1.1ha of land to be used to build a Tamil school.

In a statement issued yesterday after the State executive council meeting, Andalas State assemblyman Dr Xavier Jeyakumar said LOT 66392 in  Taman Sentosa, Klang will be used to build the school.

“We have allocated the land at Jalan Datuk Dagang 6,  Taman Sentosa after conducting a survey at that area. It is an area heavily populated by the Indian community,” Xavier said.

ROUND two of calls for a reshuffle and possible stripping of the position of a Selangor executive councillor is taking centre stage.

This time around, however, the calls for removal of Ronnie Liu, the exco for Local Government, Study and Research Committee, was made by fellow exco member for Islamic Affairs, Malay Culture, Infrastructure and Public Amenities, Datuk Dr Hassan Mohamed Ali.

THE Selangor government has directed a State-wide internal audit on the spending of State allocation by members of the Legislative Assembly.

In a statement, Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the internal audit will, among others, ensure that the spending of allocations will comply with the procedures set by the State government.

"This is our way to assure the public that the accounting of the State coffers is continuously monitored," Khalid said.

The internal audit team will also study the procedures involved with the intention for improvement.

IT started with a claim. Then, the exchange of fire, and with it, a dare to bare all.

Now, the Selangor exco-with-underworld-links saga has culminated into an official probe. The police yesterday started investigations into a claim, by Wangsa Maju MP Wee Choo Keong, that a member of the State executive council had allowed his office to be used as a place for people connected with underground activities.

BUKIT ANTARABANGSA State assemblyman Azmin Ali said there were many reasons behind his call for a reshuffle of the Selangor State executive council during last week's State assembly meeting.

He said that he had spoken about a range of matters which he felt needed to be addressed and if any disciplinary actions is forthcoming he leaves the decision to the Pakatan Rakyat party leadership.

The chairman of the Local Government, Study and Research Committee said his conscience was clear and that he had nothing to hide.
