SHAH ALAM: All primary religious schools (SRA) under the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) will use new textbooks from next year.

Jais director Datuk Mohamed Khusrin Munawi said the textbooks with focus on understanding rather than memorisation were being studied by 53 experienced writers in religious studies.

"We have appointed experienced writers to study the textboks aimed at improving the curriculum.

"Focus is on understanding rather than memorisation," he told reporters after launching the Sakinah family module here today.

FORMER Perlis mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainal Abidin is undecided whether to take legal action against the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) over his arrest.

He wants to discuss the matter with his lawyer first before making any decision.

However, Asri said he will be suing the Malaysian Syariah Lawyers Association for allegedly defaming him, claiming that he had tarnished the image of ulamas and Islam.

ABOUT 100 people listening to a religious talk given by former Perlis mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin in a house in Hulu Klang last night were shocked when 35 Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) enforcement officers barged in and arrested him.

The crowd that also included the MP for Ampang Zuraida Kamaruddin and Hulu Klang assemblyman Saari Sungib was taken aback by the Jais officers barging into the Taman Sri Ukay house to arrest Mohd Asri.
