KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry will give emphasis on those who are working and having problems to persuade them to join the National Service (NS) training programme when directed to do so.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said they were placed in the third and fourth groups in every series of the NS training programme but on most occasions, they avoided from joining the compulsory training.

THE Defence Ministry's plan to review the procurement policies for the Armed Forces has won all-round approval from members of anti-corruption vigilance committees under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

THE Defence Ministry will review its procurement policies to prevent wastage and inefficiencies, its minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said yesterday.

“We will make sure that funds allocated to the Armed Forces are spent wisely and arms procurements and other contracts are delivered on time and within the budget.”

The ministry would also ensure that the arms procurement met specifications of the users and were up-to- date.
