It's nationalism, says Hate Malaysia Facebook site

“DON’T share authentic Indonesian recipes with Malaysians.”

This is but just one of the few inane principles endorsed by a group of Indonesians on Facebook titled “We Hate Malaysia”.

The group also calls for Indonesians working in Malaysia to not share Indonesian dances or any of its culture
with Malaysians, following the controversy surrounding Indonesia’s accusation that we had “stolen” its Balinese pendet dance.

The dance was featured in a promotional advertisement for the documentary Enigmatic Malaysia on the Discovery Channel and has become a sore point with people from our neighbouring country.

On its Facebook site, the group’s logo features a stick man holding the Indonesian flag with a foot on the Jalur Gemilang.

Aside from the name of the group, it also features the slogan: Bukan rasisme, ini nasionalisme! (This isn’t racism, it's nationalism!) Its description even includes a warning line: Berhati-hatilah dengan kata-kata serumpun mereka, karena mereka akan menikam dari belakang, which means “Be careful with their words, for they may stab you from the back!”

The administrators of the group have also taken advantage of the space in the group’s description section to accuse Malaysia (which they refer to as Malingsia) as being a country without ethics, a plagiariser, lacking creativity and not wanting to and not capable of creating works of art.

They also called for Indonesians to — from now onwards — refer to Malaysia as Malingsia, ending the description with questions of how much Indonesian culture has been robbed of by Malaysia.

The group has 401,217 members to date.

The possibility of a state of war existing between our two countries over a matter so trivial is extremely remote at this time. Ditto with other SEA member countries; regardless of any other grievances any of them might have with us.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can be so stupid. These people insults our country by calling us names but still they come to us to work. Posting hate messages in Facebook is actually a good way to show how stupid, immature and insecure you are. If these people are so patriotic, what have they done to help the earthquake victims in their country. These people are just jealous because we have a great country, good leaders and good economy. Talking about the recipe for Indonesian cuisine, you can get tons of them from the net, free. Don't these people use the internet other than posting hate messages. Grow up please. Do something good for your country, get a real job, help your country to prosper. Don't waste time yelling around and "sweeping for Malaysian" It's hot on the streets, you might get a heatstroke.

What a bunch of idiotic fools! How can anyone, in their right frame of mind, create all this tensions in the holy month. We use to think of them as our brothers, in terms of being the same faith and religion and guess, now the shit is thrown back at our face!

Good. They are calling us MALING_SIA which means thief or robber. Imagine how many Indonesian robbers have been arrested or gunned down here in Malaysia. Any Malaysian robbers in Indonesia??? Malaysia is always sending aid to their victims of the Tsunami, earthquake, etc. and this is what we get in return. Praise the Almighty. Love Thy Neighbours.

Nonsense. These kind of issues are brought up by people who have nothing else to do with their free time. If they hate us so much, stop working and studying here. We Malaysians have accepted them into our country, provide them with jobs so that they can have shelter and food for themselves, and what do some of them do to return us the favor? Some robbed our houses, some to the extend of killing and rape. We are the ones that should raise issues against them. Nobody's perfect, not we Malaysians, but at least we have the respect for other cultures and we do not simply point fingers and judge them.
