Police not sitting on report says A-G
ATTORNEY-General (A-G) Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail admitted that members of the Negri Sembilan royal
family had been to see him over the alleged assault of Tunku Nadzimuddin Tunku Mudzaffar by the Raja Muda of Johor, Tunku Ismail Idris Abdul Majid Abu Bakar Iskandar Tunku Ibrahim.
He did not elaborate on Tunku Dara Naquiah Tuanku Ja'afar's statement that he had advised the family to settle the matter out of court.
He said: “It is like this, as in any normal case, if anyone wants to settle out of court, they can settle out of court. But to me, they have to think seriously about what action they need to take against each other.”
He also said he refused to be used in any way to help anyone settle out of court and must be fair in his dealings.
Abdul Gani said the alleged assault needed to be thoroughly investigated as it was difficult because it involved two groups of people making different statements and giving their own versions of what transpired.
He denied that nothing is being done by the police and the A-G’s chambers on the incident. Abdul Gani told Malay Mail the file to the case had in fact been going up and down between relevant authorities.
“The file was received by my office on Sept 17. It has been going up and down and so the file is moving and
it is not as though the police and myself are not doing anything,” Abdul Gani said.
Kuala Lumpur police CID chief SAC II Datuk Ku Chin Wah also confirmed there had been ongoing contact
and disscusion between the police and A-G’s Chambers on the case.
“The investigating officer (IO), upon receiving instruction for further investigations on Dec 1, 2008, had carried it out in earnest and there had been no further instruction thereafter," Ku said.
He said the A-G's Chambers had called for the investigating papers on Sept 16 and the IO submitted the papers accordingly.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported yesterday that according to Abdul Gani, 41 statements had been recorded
from witnesses to the incident.
The investigation paper was first submitted to the A-G's Chambers on Nov 18, 2008, and was returned to
the police on Dec 1 for further investigations, it was reported.
