A HARI Raya karaoke session for three women turned tragic yesterday when one of them suddenly collapsed and died while singing.

A source said the woman, a 32-year-old International Islamic University Malaysia English lecturer, had just finished two songs when she fell to the floor about 11.30am in a karaoke outlet at a shopping centre in Mutiara Damansara.

Shocked, the woman’s cousin and younger sister, who were with her, called for help. Security officers helped them carry the unconscious woman to a clinic on the upper floor of the shopping centre, where the doctor pronounced her dead.

An ambulance sent the body to University Malaya Medical Centre. Petaling Jaya district deputy police chief Abd Razak Elias said police ruled out foul play and are awaiting the post-mortem report from the hospital.

Sources said the lecturer had no serious medical ailment and family members were perplexed by her sudden death.

Family members at the lecturer’s house in Lorong Rahim Kajai 3, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, declined to comment.
