Howling over Shakira?
Although the song is fun to play and howl with, you’d be surprised to know that it’s not just a mindless tune and that there is actually much more to the song – a profound meaning, for one.
“The She Wolf is not only me, it’s the woman of our time,” explained Shakira in her backstage interview with Walmart Soundcheck. “It’s about defending those individual liberties that belong to all of us.
“She defends her deepest desires with teeth and claws like a wild animal,” she added in a separate interview with Radio 1.
The song went just as wild on the charts. The single saw a chart-topping US debut with nearly a million singles sold, topping the iTunes singles chart and making it number one on the hot single sales chart.
The video for She Wolf has been sweeping the world, debuting at number one on iTunes and MTV, remaining
the number two selling video on iTunes. To date, Shakira has had over 35 million
YouTube views since the She Wolf video debuted at the end of July, making it one of the biggest videos of the year!
The song represents the feel of the whole She Wolf album, where we see Shakira shift from her staple Latin pop and pop-rock to electro pop while also exploring dance.
Fans of Shakira can all shake their hips all the way to the music stores now that her latest album She Wolf is officially released today.
The highly anticipated new album, featuring songs like Did It Again, Gypsy and of course, the hit She Wolf which Shakira both co-wrote and co-produced, marks Shakira’s third English-language release.
She Wolf was recorded in the Bahamas. Shakira worked closely with the likes of artiste/producer Pharrell Williams, Santigold producer John Hill, The Neptunes and Wyclef Jean, who was involved in producing her previous worldwide hit Hips Don’t Lie.
