KLANG: Elaine Wong, 27, can only pray she won't be third time unlucky after becoming a snatch theft victim for the second time yesterday morning.

Worse, the latest incident happened right outside her house in Taman Bukit Kuda here while she was leaving for work.

She had not suspected anything amiss when she was approached by two men on a motorcycle, "asking for directions".

"They asked if I could help direct them to a nearby address. When I got a little closer, the pillion rider suddenly snatched my handbag," Elaine said.

KUALA LUMPUR: No one is above the law — not even a policeman.

That is the stand of Kedah police chief Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan when contacted to comment on the case of a policeman who was alleged to have assaulted a woman he had an affair with over the past 10  years.

News of the abuse and allegations the suspect had kept the woman as his sex slave was splashed in the media on Tuesday.

The woman reportedly claimed that the policeman had hit,  choked and kicked her numerous times over the years, as well as fed her only bread and plain water.

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will go ahead with its "tell-all" on the State-given resources to Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK).

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said this morning that a full disclosure on the funds, assets and land given to the poverty eradication foundation would be ready by the end of the month.

However, Khalid did not comment when asked by The Malay Mail on YBK's willingness to cooperate with the State.

KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Land & Development Bhd has agreed to discuss the Kampung Railway land dispute with the Federal Territories Ministry, which believes the problem can be resolved amicably.

Deputy FT Minister Datuk M. Saravanan said this morning he had received a letter for discussions on the matter from YTL chairman Sulaiman Manan.

"I believe we can resolve the problem amicably since YTL has agreed to meet us and from the letter I received, I think there will be an amicable solution to the issue," he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have brushed off allegations in a blog and website recently that an aide of Teratai assemblyman Jenice Lee had been involved in a drug case in Penang.

The police are now seeking assistance from the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate the case.

On Wednesday, Lee had lodged a police report against a blog and website for alleging that she and her personal assistant were involved in a drug case in Penang.

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas leaders were divided regarding the book Malaysian Maverick: Mahathir Mohamad in Turbulent Times.

Party vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar said there was no reason for the Home Ministry to ban the book even if the contents were controversial as the book merely contained information.

KLANG: The Sessions Court here has set March 26 as the mention date for the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) case.

Judge Yong Zarida Sazali set the date after deputy public prosecutor Dzulkifli Ahmad requested the court to set an early date.

Present in court this morning was the first accused, former PKA general manager Datin Paduka Phang Oi Choo @ Phang Ai Tu, 63, or better known as O.C. Phang.

She attended court to surrender her passport. Dressed in a green blouse and black pants, Phang was accompanied by her lawyer Ng Aik Guan.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry has so far conducted checks on 72 security companies registered under the ministry nationwide.

The operation follows two recent incidents, the first when two boys were shot when a security guard accidentally discharged his firearm at the Tenaga Nasional Bhd service centre in Jalan Klang Lama, and the second when another security guard accidentally pulled the trigger while cleaning his pump-gun at the Agro Bank branch in Wangsa Link Wangsa Maju. No one was injured in the second incident.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry has issued a show-cause letter to another security firm, X-C Command Security Services Sdn Bhd, whose security guard accidentally discharged his firearm at the Agro Bank branch in Wangsa Link.

In the Dec 7 incident, the 62-year-old guard accidentally pulled the trigger while cleaning his pump-gun at the Agro Bank branch in Wangsa Maju.

The shot hit a wall and no one was injured.

KUALA LUMPUR: A company dinner is a fun and exciting event but it turned out to be a nightmare for Krishna Kumar who was allegedly beaten by auxiliary policemen after the dinner.

It happened last Sunday after Krishna attended a company dinner at Centro Club in KL Sentral.

"At about 1.30am I left the club. My car was clamped as I had parked it in a place I shouldn't have," he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: The magistrate's court this morning sentenced local actor Farid Amirul (pic) to two months jail and a RM2,500 fine for theft.

Originally, the punishment was two months' jail and a RM1,500 fine by magistrate Mohd Faizi Che Abu.

The fine was increased after Farid's lawyer Nor Azri Mohd Arif had appealed that the starting date for the jail term be put to a later date.

PUTRAJAYA: The Higher Education Ministry said this morning that it will be selecting three polytechnic colleges to offer higher diploma education programmes to its students.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, said all of the 27 polytechnic colleges nationwide currently offers limited education programmes up to diploma-level only, thus preventing many from pursuing a higher level of studies.
