TURN THE HEAT UP: Members of Extreme are all geared up to keep people going on the dance floor with party music

TOP bands in the business have been lined to heat things up at the Charity Jam Session 2009 on Sunday, Nov 8 at the upbeat Uncle Chili’s, Hilton Petaling Jaya from 2pm to 1am.

Malay Mail was given a chance to speak to some of the bands that will be performing on the night itself. Safe to say, all of them are psyched to work out the crowd.

Sharin Band is one of them. The band is made up of three muscians which include Sharin on vocals and guitar, G’Manz on bass and Man Kanan on drums.

Every band member has been in the music scene for the past 15 years and got together six years ago to form Jamthis band. They perform various music which includes rock, blues, jazz and Latin.

However, for their upcoming album, the band will be focusing on their main love progressive rock. Their first single Cinta Pertama is set to hit the airwaves in a few weeks’ time.

“We will also be releasing an album with a total of 10 songs. But it all depends on how the single is received by listeners,” said band leader Sharin.

ROCKING ON: It’s all about rock music for Sharin Band on the night of the Charity Jam

“Sharin Band has been performing at the Charity Jam for the past five years. It’s a great way to contribute to charity and for us to catch up with old friends in the industry.”

On the night of the Charity Jam, Sharin Band will be joined by two other musicians to form a five-piece band, where they will be performing heavy rock, Deep Purple-style.

Another band to look out for will be Extreme, headed by Ahmad Zakaria, who is also the keyboardist and vocalist.

“We are fans of 70s music, which was the reason why we grouped together to form Extreme. We have been performing together for close to five years,” said Ahmad.

Made up of two girls and five guys, other band members include guitarist and vocalist Azman Jamali, bassist
Badron Amirbek, male vocalist Dino, drummer Saifulhizam Othman, and the two lady singers Nora and Ninie Sunchez.

A lot of the songs they perform are evergreens and they get a lot of requests for songs such as Hotel California, Dancing Queen, and plenty of other numbers from Abba and Air Supply.

This is the band’s second time performing at the Charity Jam, although Ahmad has been doing his part for charity plenty more times.

“I was previously with another band called Heavy Machines where we had also performed at the Charity Jam Session. It is a good opportunity not only to give back to society but to also gain exposure for our band.”

Extreme will be getting the crowd on high spirits with party songs and hopes they will enjoy the music and have fun for the night.

Currently, Extreme can be found performing at the Beach Club in Jalan P.Ramlee every night except for Sundays from 9.30pm to 12.30pm.

This year marks the 10th anniversary for the Charity Jam Session and it is jointly organised by the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), Chefs Association of Malaysia (CAM), The Malaysian Food and Beverage Executives Association (MFBEA) and Malaysian Association of Housekeepers.
