Suspects arrested hours after trailer hijack
SELANGOR police arrested three men in Kerian, Perak, early Sunday morning — in connection with the hijacking of a trailer laden with machinery worth RM1 million.
The arrest came a few hours after the hijacking near the Subang Jaya toll plaza.
Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the drama unfolded at 8pm when one of the trailer’s tyres burst, forcing the driver to pull over by the roadside. The driver was heading for Port Klang when the incident occurred.
While the driver was waiting for help, a one-tonne lorry drew up nearby. The driver did not suspect anything amiss until he saw three men armed with machetes alight from the vehicle.
“The suspects then bundled the driver into their lorry and abandoned him in an estate in Kuala Selangor. The driver had his hands and feet bound with rope,” said Khalid.
The driver however managed to escape and sought help from a motorist, who took him to a nearby police station to lodge a report.
Following the information given, police sent out an all-points bulletin with the trailer’s registration number and description of the suspects to their colleagues in other states.
A few hours later, the trailer laden with machinery was spotted at a traffic light junction near Simpang Lima police station in Perak.
Police on checking found it to be the stolen trailer. They arrested three suspects — aged between 23 and 42 — who were in the trailer.
