Girls like it short

Attention all men! Those of you who believe your long, unkempt, rock star hairstyle or bald head is ‘cool’, you may have to think again.

A recent online survey by Brylcreem, a popular male grooming brand, revealed that a majority of Malaysian women prefer men with short and neat hair.

Conducted on a sample size of close to 1,000 female participants, 64.13 per cent of the respondents prefer men with a short, textured crop.

Usually spotted on the boy-next-door, men with this hairstyle are believed to be warm, down to earth and unpretentious. Much like local hunk Hans Isaac and ‘Spiderman’ Tobey Maguire.

Men with the long fringe hairstyle, usually spotted by Korean pop stars, came in a distant second with 28.89 per cent.

The disheveled but trendy look that covers the forehead creates an air of mysteriousness, just like singing sensation Rain and our home-grown Faizal Tahir.

Coming in at third place with 4.86 per cent is the Buzz Cut, also known as Crew Cut, popularly worn by Prison Break’s lead Wentworth Miller and local hip hopper Joe Flizzow. Men who opt for this hairstyle are often seen as simple yet manly with this ‘rocking’ look.

Only 2.12 per cent of the women who took part in the survey, from the age of 18 to 28, like men with long hair or dread-locks.

So unfortunately lead guitarists looking like younger versions of Awie and Steve Tyler did not score enough points on the ‘coolness’ scale.

Additionally, 32 per cent of respondents believe that fresh-smelling hair and a overall fresh appearance makes men most appealing.

Men who are fit and well-built come in a close second with 30 per cent admitting to being attracted to macho men.

“We were surprised to find out that the majority of Malaysia women get put off by the smell of sweat, smoke and staleness on men, especially when it comes to their hair, said Sara Lee Malaysia marketing director, Low Chooi Hoon.

For those who are looking at climbing up the coolness ladder, perhaps changing your hairstyle might do the trick and score a few points with the ladies.

There is one way you can make sure your hair is always fresh whatever the hairstyle is with Brylcreem Gels with Fresh Hair Technology.

“The new gel range will ensure that hair will remain fresh for at least six hours without losing its ‘holding’ power making sure Malaysian men are at their best, all day, anytime and anywhere,” added Low.

The Fresh Hair Technology is now available in all Brylcreem Gel variants, including Xtreme Gel, Strong Hold Gel and Dandruff Control Gel.
