To have or have not; MCA Youth split over EGM
MERE hours after MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong had said the movement was all for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM), the party's deputy chief Datuk Mah Hang Soon took a different stand.
Insisting there was no split but "just differences in opinion", Mah said the movement's central committee meeting, held earlier yesterday afternoon, did not discuss nor make any decision on the subject.
His 9.30pm press conference last night was seen as a slap on Dr Wee's face as the latter had hours earlier said the movement had decided to call for an EGM for fresh party election.
Mah said a central committee member had merely briefed the meeting on the EGM and after several minutes, the subject was left out of discussion.
"The briefing was not more than five minutes and there was no elaboration whatsoever.
"No discussion was held and the subject was just put aside," he said when questioned.
Mah said all quarters in the party should give time for the unity plan to work and there should not be any pressure put on the leaders.
"Give them time and give the unity plan time to work," he said.
Asked about Dr Wee's call for the leaders to brief on the plan, Mah said that call was right but there should not be undue pressure.
"Everyone wants to know the plan but give them time. I am confident they will reveal it, it's just a matter of time.
"In the meantime, let us all stay united and support the plan," he added.
Bernama had also yesterday quoted MCA party secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng as saying that arrangements to call for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) were underway after he had received the requisition from 16 of the Central Committee members yesterday.
Wong had said that once the preparation was finalised, he would announce the date of the EGM.Advertisement
