KUALA LUMPUR: A man who took his wife to a clinic last Tuesday afternoon returned to find his high-security apartment in Taman Tun Dr Ismail burgled with losses estimated at more than RM100,000.

"My wife and I moved into Villa Flora condo three months ago," said the victim, a man in his 30s, who preferred to be known as Salem and who believes the crime was an 'inside-job'.

SUNGAI BULOH: Pirated DVD manufacturers suffered an RM8 million loss yesterday, in what is believed to be the largest ever seizure by the authorities in the last two years.

Domestic Trade, Cooperation and Consumerism ministry enforcement division head Mohd Roslan Mahayuddin  said yesterday afternoon's raid also saw two Myanmar, one Bangladeshi and two locals arrested.

PETALING JAYA: Selangor police took statements from several people in the past few days as their probe into Yayasan Kebajikan Masyarakat (YBK) continues.

This follows seven police reports against the Selangor government in connection with the case.

Last Thursday, YBK chairman, Datuk Zainal Abidin Sakom, was called by police to discuss his allegation of criminal defamation against the Selangor Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Selangor Deputy CID chief Omar Mamah told The Malay Mail that since then several people gave statements.

PETALING JAYA: An Indonesian construction worker died on the spot while his pillion rider sustained serious  injuries after they were hit by a four-wheel drive vehicle at Jalan SS1/22 here on Monday night.

The two, who were working at a construction site in Puchong, were heading towards the area at 8pm when the  accident occurred.

The deceased was identified as R. Saman. The pillion rider, identified as Sharud, sustained body injuries and a  broken leg.

AMPANG: Two lovers of the same woman, who claimed never to have met each other before, will now spend days together behind bars.

The duo were arrested last Friday to assist police in the murder case involving a middle-aged woman at Taman Cahaya Ampang.

It is alleged the duo were both lovers of the dead woman, and the pair have been remanded for 10 days in the same lock-up.

Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Abdul Jalil Hassan confirmed the arrest of the two to assist police in the love triangle puzzle.

KUALA LUMPUR: There seems to be unwarranted activities at the surgical clinic at Danau Desa, off Old Klang Road — where a 39-year-old woman died while under anaesthesia on Dec 17 during a liposuction procedure.

A raid on the clinic last Friday found at least four medications not on the Health Ministry's approval list. Also, a foreign doctor, who had been working there for the past three years, was arrested when he couldn't prove his qualification.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have brushed off allegations in a blog and website recently that an aide of Teratai assemblyman Jenice Lee had been involved in a drug case in Penang.

The police are now seeking assistance from the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate the case.

On Wednesday, Lee had lodged a police report against a blog and website for alleging that she and her personal assistant were involved in a drug case in Penang.

AMPANG: Police here have launched an operation to check on Africans who misuse their student visas and indulge in illegal activities.

The operation, which started last Friday, has seen about 100 Africans screened, of whom 26 were detained as they could not convince the police they were not abusing their permits.

Ampang district police chief ACP Abdul Jalil Hassan said the operation would be conducted for at least a week, together with People's Vounteer Corps (Rela), the Civil Defence Department and Immigration Department.

PETALING JAYA: When a 21-year-old security guard saw a man acting strangely while entering a jewellery shop at Sunway Pyramid, he felt something was not right.

A few minutes later his instinct was proven right.

In the 4pm incident, the young guard, who only wished to be known as Mohd Firdaus, witnessed the man in his late 20s, running away after grabbing a bracelet worth RM3,000 from a salesgirl.

It is learnt that the suspect had visited the premises several times but never once made a purchase.

KUALA LUMPUR: This car crashed into a concrete divider on Jalan Mahameru in the direction of the Parliament building at 6am today.

The impact threw the driver, a woman in her 20s, out of the vehicle. She and two passengers sustained minor injuries and were sent to hospital by motorists.

A witness said the driver lost control of the car as she was speeding.

SUBANG JAYA: The man who attacked a couple after ramming his car into their motorcycle in Seri Kembangan has turned himself in to the police.

The man, who went missing less than 24 hours after lodging a police report on the incident, has been remanded since last Tuesday.

According to Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Zainal Rashid Abu Bakar, the man surrendered to police after learning that they were looking for him.

KUALA LUMPUR: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng will be called up by the police for allegedly making a seditious comment during a speech at the first convention of Pakatan Rakyat on Dec 19.

Speaking to the media, Selangor Police Chief DCP Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said, Lim had made a seditious comment by saying that "Teoh Beng Hock was murdered".

"The police are still investigating the case and Teoh's inquest is still ongoing. How can he conclude that Teoh was killed? As a politician he can't just speculate and say what ever he wants. Let us do our job," he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for a motorist who attacked a couple after ramming his car into their motorcycle in Seri Kembangan last Monday.

The driver also assaulted Chong Zie Hau and his wife, Tee Siew Yee, both aged 24, before lodging a police report on the incident.

SENTUL: Police are on the lookout for a suspect in his late 30s who injured a Chinese national in the scrotum on on Sunday.

Sentul district CID chief DSP Lim San Aik said the victim had lodged a report two days after the incident occurred and police have identified the suspect after getting a statement from the victim.

"We are still not sure how the suspect managed to cause such a severe injury by only using his hand."

The 38-year-old foot reflexologist was rushed to the hospital on Sunday morning when he bled non-stop from a wound in his scrotum.

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Geek Hoon, 41, can finally lead a normal life now after a successful heart transplant at the National Heart Institute (IJN) yesterday.

A heart, kept in a special storage box, was flown in by a Royal Malaysian Navy's Fennec helicopter from Ipoh Hospital to IJN on Tuesday.

Since November 2008, Tan has been surviving by using a mechanical heart assist device.

KUALA LUMPUR: Barely a week since two children were injured by a dropped firearm, another security guard had accidentally discharged his firearm while on duty.

In the 9am incident yesterday, it is believed the 62-year-old guard was handling his pumpgun while guarding the Agro bank branch in Wangsa Link Wangsa Maju.

According to a police source, the guard accidentally pulled the trigger as he was cleaning the pumpgun. The shot hit a wall. The source said the security company only made a  police report eight hours after the incident.
