Fatal end for snatch thief
In yet another vigilante car chase after a snatch theft, the female victim caught up with the suspect, lost control of the car she was driving and rammed into the man — killing him on the spot.
In the 10pm incident on Wednesday night, Sentul district police chief ACP Zakaria Pagan said the 24-year-old marketing executive was driving her white Myvi from Wangsa Maju towards Kuala Lumpur when she was confronted by a man on a motorcycle, some 150m from a traffic light at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa.
The man had accused the woman of hitting his vehicle and demanded reimbursement. She was asked to stop at a petrol station nearby to settle the case.
“There, the woman gave the man all her money amounting to RM45. But, he was unsatisfied and asked for her cellphone too, which she gave him.”
Still unhappy, the man then grabbed the woman’s handbag and jumped on his motorcycle and rode off in the direction of Titiwangsa.
Zakaria said the woman went back into her car and gave chase for some 800m — and reached a dead end.
“The robber came right up to the fencing of the Titiwangsa Golf Club and stopped abruptly. But the woman could not brake in time. The car slammed the motorcycle into the fence, dragging the man a few metres. The man died on the spot,” Zakaria said.
Initial investigations revealed that the deceased was C. Unni Krishnan Nair, a 29-year-old from Negri Sembilan, with one record for robbery in Seremban.
“We believe the suspect may not have known the road and reached the dead end unintentionally,” said Zakaria, adding that police are now probing whether the woman had any intention of harming the man.
At Press time, a post-mortem on Unni Krishnan was still in progress.
This case is similar to a vigilante car chase a month ago when a woman slammed into two motorcycles on the opposite side of the road at Batu 6, Jalan Klang Lama while chasing a couple of snatch thieves.
In that incident, an innocent motorcyclist, Tang Kim Lai, 39, died on the spot while another man, a 28-year-old machine operator, K. Saravanakumar, was severely injured.
