Kin Kin
‘GOODNESS gracious, great balls of fire!’. For those of you who remember this particular song way back when, well, Restoran Kin Kin may well have enough heat themselves to change the words of that tune.

Made famous for their spicy pan mee, this little outlet is located on the same row as many car workshops and even a gun store.

Signs around the little restaurant remind people that Kin Kin is indeed the “original spicy pan mee” and that
“the imitation places are not the same”.

Even table etiquette is scribbled in black marker on the wall, from ‘small table are for fi ve people’ to ‘all tables are shared amongst (sic) other people’.

The speciality of Kin Kin is their dry pan mee, which comes with a poached egg on top and a bowl of soup with a few spinach leaves in it.

Little crunchy ikan billis and minced meat garnish the top of the bowl and give it a great taste. However, the ‘spicy’ in spicy pan mee comes in the unassuming form of a dark red, black and brown mixture in plastic containers, located on each table.

If one were to guess, it has dried chilis, peppers and dried prawns, all blended together to make one fi ery concoction. It’s completely up to you how many spoonfuls of this dried mixture you put in your bowl, the more the merrier for most people anyway.

So for those with a strong stomach for spice and even for those who don’t, Restoran Kin Kin still comes out as a ‘hot’ choice for the people who work in and around the area.

A unique experience

unique seafood
UNIQUE seafood, located on Jalan Kemajuan in Section 13, is part of the chain of restaurants that include Pantai Seafood in Kampung Kayu Ara.

A popular restaurant to bring overseas clients and visitors, or staff as part of a company dinner, it serves up an extensively wide array of ocean fares for people to choose from.

For those who like fresh fish served sashimi style, there is the option of the sashimi and hot broth fish dish. A fresh fish is selected from one of the array of tanks as per the customer’s choice (and budget) and is sliced up sashimi style.

The whole fish is presented with the head, backbone and tail of the fi sh. For the lucky few, gills or fins will still be twitching upon arrival, proving just how fresh it is.

The hot broth is used to cook the fi sh meat for those with a weaker disposition to sashimi, as well as cooking the meat left on the backbone.

Other popular dishes include their kam heong crab, ‘4-style’ fried vegetables, clams and a selection of their other seafood choices.
