Hell in Selayang Utama during weekends

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009 06:41:00

JUNE just hates going shopping for groceries in her neighbourhood in Selayang.

On weekends, she says, the commercial area in Taman Selayang Utama is badly congested because of inconsiderate and irresponsible motorists who park their vehicles without bothering about the traffic congestion they cause.

As a result, JUNE adds, the traffic congestion piles up to the Selayang Mall and it makes it difficult for residents of Taman Selayang Utama to enter and exit the area.

She hopes that more council traffic officers can be on duty in the area on weekends to control traffic and act against motorists who park indiscriminately.

SELAYANG Municipal Council public relations officer Helda Shima Abu Talab confirms the council has received several complaints on this matter and will investigate illegal parking in the area.

“The council has decided to tow vehicles that obstruct traffic flow in the area beginning next year. We used to do that a few years ago, but when things were better, we stopped the exercise.

"Since there are so many complaints, we will have to do it again."

The mention of 'kurang ajar' is a culture in our country. This shows, how inconsiderate our people behave and they do not care.

why stop the practise of towing cars. put a big sign saying that illegaly parked cars would be towed away, give the towing company(ies) a contract to tow vehicles which are indiscriminatley parked and let market forces do its job. financial disincentive is a great behaviour modifier.

What do you mean by things were better, you stopped the exercise. This should be a constant affair or not the traffic at the Selayang Mall is super chaotic. These people can afford to buy a car but they cannot afford to pay for parking, very "kurang ajar." If the Municipal Council do not have the manpower or the tidak apa attitude then the traffic police should be call in then. Hey Municiapl council believe me there is tons of money for the council to make by the amount of kurang ajar drivers who park their cars as if their father owns the road plus the kurang ajar taxis who thinks they own the road too in Selayang Mall.
