The victim, the founder and director of construction firm Satujaya Sdn Bhd, and a former president of the Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM), sustained serious injuries when he fell from his house window during a struggle with three parang-wielding robbers, said Kuala Lumpur police CID chief SAC II Datuk Ku Chin Wah.
In the 7pm incident, the three suspects entered the victim’s three-storey house while the victim was in his computer room upstairs and his son was in the bathroom. The man’s daughter and maid were in the kitchen downstairs.
“The three robbers, carrying weapons believed to be machettes, had entered the home,” said Ku, adding that initial investigations showed the home to be unlocked.
“One of the robbers stood guard below while two others ran upstairs and confronted Wong.” Ku added that it is not presently known whether the victim had been assaulted earlier before the son came out of the bathroom.
It was learnt later that the victim may have jumped from a window while trying to escape the robbers.
“One robber was heard saying that the victim had leapt, while the son escaped from the robbers, with minor injuries,” said Ku.
“The three robbers came down and dragged the unconscious victim back inside the house before they fled.”
The robbers took off with a minimal amount of valuables, including a purse belonging to Wong’s daughter and handphone, plus US$300 (RM1,000) cash.
Police have since classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
“We are currently working on the angle that the motive was robbery,” said Ku, adding that efforts are now being made to identify the suspects.
A post-mortem at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital yesterday showed that Wong had died from internal bleeding in the head, suffered during his fall.
When Malay Mail visited the family home at Jalan Kemaris 1, Bukit Bandaraya, his grieving family declined to speak to reporters.
