A PROMINENT local property personality, Datuk Patrick Wong, 57, died yesterday morning after he succumbed to injuries sustained during a robbery at his home in Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar on Tuesday.

The victim, the founder and director of construction firm Satujaya Sdn Bhd, and a former president of the Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM), sustained serious injuries when he fell from his house window during a struggle with three parang-wielding robbers, said Kuala Lumpur police CID chief SAC II Datuk Ku Chin Wah.

In the 7pm incident, the three suspects entered the victim’s three-storey house while the victim was in his computer room upstairs and his son was in the bathroom. The man’s daughter and maid were in the kitchen downstairs.

“The three robbers, carrying weapons believed to be machettes, had entered the home,” said Ku, adding that initial investigations showed the home to be unlocked.

“One of the robbers stood guard below while two others ran upstairs and confronted Wong.” Ku added that it is not presently known whether the victim had been assaulted earlier before the son came out of the bathroom.

It was learnt later that the victim may have jumped from a window while trying to escape the robbers.

“One robber was heard saying that the victim had leapt, while the son escaped from the robbers, with minor injuries,” said Ku.

“The three robbers came down and dragged the unconscious victim back inside the house before they fled.”

The robbers took off with a minimal amount of valuables, including a purse belonging to Wong’s daughter and handphone, plus US$300 (RM1,000) cash.

Police have since classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“We are currently working on the angle that the motive was robbery,” said Ku, adding that efforts are now being made to identify the suspects.

A post-mortem at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital yesterday showed that Wong had died from internal bleeding in the head, suffered during his fall.

When Malay Mail visited the family home at Jalan Kemaris 1, Bukit Bandaraya, his grieving family declined to speak to reporters.

Yes, my condolences to the family. What a tragedy. Our family is emigrating to Australia as we feel life in Malaysia has become too dangerous. Crime should be mission number one for the government.

Mr Obvious the country you are immigrating to, I wish you all the best. Do you ever read the Australian news. If you have read the Australian news, you will understand what I am speaking about. You are in a situation where they say "From the frying pan into the fire."

My late father was a police clerk in the 60's. The local in Kota Bharu,Kelantan gave high respect to police clerks what more about officers of the uniform staff. There used to be Punjabi policeman with their mustache in every corner of the road. Their presence is our security. I suggest that the Police Dept. have police officers in every corner of the road. And also in housing areas. This will reduce the crime rate in our country. If the police force keep up the good work like the good old days then we will not see another Dato Patrik dying an unworthy death. I respect and honour Dato Patrik for his contribution to mankind and the country. God has prepared a best place for you Dato.

Ever since he became the Home Minister, the country plunged into lawlessness and chaos in a historical proportion.

Time for all of us to arm ourselves in our own home. It is better to kill to defend ourselves than to be kill as we are really living a very dangerous era. This type of news seem to be happening too often. My sympathies goes to the families here.

The 2 lots adjacent to this bungalow are undeveloped. All angles must be probed by the authorities. The house has been listed for sale at RM 6.6 mil on the local daily Real Estate pages for a few months now.
