KUALA LUMPUR: A group of foreign women was cornered by police officers when they tried to con their way out from being detained during a raid in Bukit Bintang this morning.

Twenty-one women from China and one from Myanmar claimed to be celebrating a friend's birthday when being questioned by police.

"When we checked on the birthday of the 'friend', we noticed that it was on Sept 7," said DSP Razali Abu Samah from the Secret Societies, Vice and Gambling Unit of the Kuala Lumpur police.

Five of the women were found using student passes.

Razali, who led the operation with six other officers, said police would investigate whether these passes were valid even though it indicated they were Universiti Malaya and Sunway College students.

"We have doubts on these student cards passes as some of them were cut and passports had multiple stamps in it.

"None admitted working as guest relations officer. That is why we held them for questioning," Razali said.

It is understood that the premises charged a minimum of RM 100 for each girl brought into the club.

"Of course, the women will be questioned and subject to proper documentation before we can clarify anything," said Razali.

Also detained in the operation, which ended at 2am today, were seven customers who were being entertained in separate rooms.

The women, aged 22 to 27, were taken to the Tun H.S Lee police station for further investigations.

This was the second time in a week's that foreign women were being caught with student visas.

Last Tuesday, The Malay Mail reported on a 'five-star' vice den was busted in Subang Jaya where 28 China national's were caught using student visas.

Soft crime is easier to police. Numbers look good and women are easier to handle. Plus no brains needed to look for them. Any red blooded teenager would know where to find such entertainment!

The authorities are not doing anything to curb the violence that transpires everyday outside where the public are. Snatch thieves, reckless motor-cyclists, rapists...these are the real threat. Vice dens pose no danger to the public as they operate for those who wish to be "entertained". It is not something new...such things have been around for so long in this country without much trouble...the only people affected are the patrons themselves in which case, doesn't affect the public as outlets like these operate within their own territory. It's ridiculous that the authorities continue to focus on the wrong side, while the real murderers, thieves and threats to the public still run free in the streets.
