SHAH ALAM: The Syariah High Court here today ruled for veteran actor-singer Raisuddin Hamzah, 53, and his 22-year-old second wife, Siti Fatimah Suberi, to live separately until their marriage is verified by the court and lawfully registered.

Judge Abu Zaky Mohammad granted the application made by Siti Fatimah’s father Suberi Abdullah, 49, who filed for the couple’s marriage to be dissolved by way of faraq (judicial separation).

Judge Abu Zaky Mohammad stated there appeared to be a clash whereby Suberi applied for faraq whereas his daughter has no doubts about the status of her marriage to Raisuddin.

Abu Zaky agreed with Suberi’s appeal for the couple to temporarily live separately, instead of as husband and wife, at this point.

Suberi was represented by Roshdan Sujak Rafie while the couple were represented by Syarie counsel Nor Azmi Mohd Arif.

The court has set Jan 27 to rule on Suberi’s appeal to dissolve the marriage by way of faraq, pending another decision by the Syariah High Court on the couple’s marriage status.

Raisuddin had married Siti Fatimah in Songkhla, Thailand on Jan 2, 2007.

On Oct 26 that year, Suberi filed an application to have the couple’s marriage dissolved by way of faraq as he said his daughter was residing in Selangor and he, as her wali mujbir (birth father), was not informed of the marriage.

Meanwhile, Raisuddin from Parit, Perak and Siti Fatimah of Alor Star, Kedah filed an application to have their marriage certified.

However, both applications by Suberi and the couple were denied by the Gombak Timur Lower Syariah Court last February.

The court then instructed the couple to file the marriage certification application at the Syariah High Court as it involved issues of polygamy for Raisuddin was still married to his first wife, Noor A’ini Mohamad, 52.

On March 17, Suberi filed an appeal at the Shah Alam Syariah High Court as the Lower Syariah court did not have jurisdiction to decide on both cases.

Raisuddin is the father of singer Siti Sarah, 25, from his first marriage.

common issue by non- common people that's why it's in the news. They write it cause they know some people (if not you) would read it. Raisudin was a local celebrity and a father of a known local singer. Should malay mail just write news if only you approve of it??
