SHAH ALAM: The Syariah High Court here this morning allowed actress Lydiawati’s application to issue a show cause letter to her former husband.

Syarie judge Abu Zaky Mohammad allowed the application that Lydiawati had filed at the court's registrar's office on Dec 15, after she claimed Azhar Mohd Zar, 35, had failed to return wedding items and make alimony payments amounting to RM103,000 as ordered by a lower syariah court after their divorce last May.

A notice would also be filed for the case to proceed at the Kuala Langat Syariah Lower Court.

Lydiawati, 44, who showed up in court wearing a red baju kurung was represented by Syarie lawyer Nor Azmi Mohd Arif.

On Dec 15, Lydiawati, whose real name is Salina Zaimon, had filed an application seeking the high court's permission to issue a show cause letter to Azhar over his failure to adhere to a decison by the Kuala Langat Syariah Lower Court in Banting to return to the actress wedding items or its cash value (RM67,000) as well as ‘iddah’ and ‘mutaah’ alimony (nafkah) worth RM30,000 on top of alimony arrears (tunggakan nafkah) of RM6,000.

Her marriage to Azhar, the actress's third, took place on June 6, 2008 but the couple amicably divorced ‘talak satu’ on May 5 at the Kuala Langat Syariah lower court citing irreconcilable differences.

When Azhar failed to pay up the RM103,000, Lydiawati had wanted numerous times to file a summons against her ex-husband at the Shah Alam Syariah High Court for his failure to comply with the Lower Syariah Court orders.

However, she had failed to turn up each time citing personal reasons, until finally being able to make in on Dec 15.
