SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have finally recorded a statement from veteran politician Datuk Kadar Sulaiman Ninam Shah — about seven months after his Shah Alam bungalow was broken into and his maid allegedly gang-raped.

State police chief DCP Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said Kadar Shah had given a statement “and so far everything is in order”.

He declined further comment but police sources told The Malay Mail that Kadar Shah had been questioned on speculation that certain “sensitive” items had been taken during the break-in.

The sources said Kadar Shah had detailed what was lost to the intruders during the incident on June 21 last year. He was abroad then and the police had said it was strange that Kadar Shah had not returned home immediately to determine the loss of his valuables.

The sources said investigators were expected to question again the maid, as there were discrepancies in her statement to police after the incident. Her claim of gang-rape was in doubt and police have not ruled out the possibility that she could have aided the robbers to enter the house.

At least seven parang-wielding men broke into Kadar Shah's bungalow at Greenville, SAAS Golf Club in Shah Alam, in the early hours of June 21.

In August, police made a breakthrough in their investigations with the arrest of two men, soon after four of their accomplices were gunned down in Rawang.

A newsmaker, despite his absence

SHAH ALAM: Kadar Sulaiman Ninam Shah continued making news during his long absence from the country.

Among them: His lawyer’s claim, during the divorce proceedings brought by his wife, that Kadar Shah was seeking a postponement because he feared for his safety if he returned home.

Syariah court judge Mohd Shukor Sabudin granted the postponement, but warned: “The excuse of being worried for his safety is not acceptable. His maid was raped and not him. There is no reason for him to be in fear.”

He still did not turn up on Nov 30, but the court was told Kadar Shah and his wife, Datin Fauziah Haron, had agreed to an out-of-court settlement on their divorce.

In September, he lost a nine-year-old court case that began with a RM1 million loan from businessman Mohammed Norlizam Jailani, 39.

He continued to be in the news during the tussle between the two Kelantan princes, particularly for his role in having helped 18-year-old former teen model Manohara Odelia Pinot to leave her husband Tengku Temenggong Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Sultan Ismail Petra.
