YBK fiasco: STATE WILL TELL ALL

Selangor wants resources to be well-managed

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will go ahead with its "tell-all" on the State-given resources to Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK).

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said this morning that a full disclosure on the funds, assets and land given to the poverty eradication foundation would be ready by the end of the month.

However, Khalid did not comment when asked by The Malay Mail on YBK's willingness to cooperate with the State.

He said as the rakyat's resources were given to the foundation, it was important for the State to ensure that they were returned to the rakyat fairly.

"When the State gives assets and funds to a foundation, we need to know how they are being channeled.

"We take all these issues as a lesson for the future so that we will be able to handle things differently.

"In any upcoming projects by the State, we will first disclose details such as who is involved, how much it costs and why it is to be undertaken, so that in future, any misunderstandings (regarding the projects) will not happen."

Khalid was speaking at the monthly gathering of State government departments at the SUK Building here.

On a separate note, he said from the end of next month, the State would embark on the Sungai Klang river restoration project.

Khalid said the project would be undertaken by selected companies that fit the proper criteria and with a sincere interest in restoring the river, but he did not name the companies.

He said other State projects for 2010 should be properly planned and executed well to give the best results, adding that they would be announced soon.
