WEE: Denies link to Port Klang Free Zone scandal

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong has dropped his threat to sue Bernama TV, but maintains that a local English daily and Tan Sri Robert Phang remain on his "to sue" list over the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal.

He told The Malay Mail on Wednesday that if both parties do not respond to the letter of demand sent to them by his lawyers, he will proceed with court action.

"They have been given seven days to respond to the letter of demand. If I don't receive a response, I'll file the suit against them," said Wee.

Wee decided to sue Phang for his slanderous remarks against him when the latter spoke at a "live" talk show on Bernama TV recently.

He also said that Phang had allegedly text-messaged in Chinese to inform several MCA leaders that he would be exposing Wee's involvement in the PKFZ scandal on TV.

On the advice of his lawyers, Wee contacted the Bernama TV programme producer and programme host of the "live" show to say that he will also take legal action against them.

The "live" talk show was cut short. Wee also explained that he was suing the newspaper because it had allegedly reported that Phang, chairman of the Social Care Foundation, was not convinced with Wee's explanation on the PKFZ.

He had earlier said: "I know it wasn't the reporter's fault. Someone higher up had edited the story to make it seem like I am hiding something. I have nothing to hide."

Wee, who is also Deputy Education Minister, denied any link to the PKFZ stating that his former company only did a study for them free of charge.
