Penalised for cancelling bus journey
SELVARANI of Kuala Lumpur, relating the plight of her father who resides in Taiping, Perak, says: “My father went to the bus terminal in Kamunting, Perak, on Jan 16 to purchase return tickets from Transnasional for the coming Chinese New Year holidays."
The tickets were for Taiping to KL departing on Feb 13 at 4.30pm, and the return journey from KL to Taiping departing on Feb 16 at 8.45am.
“Unfortunately, there was a change of plans for the family resulting in my father not being able to fulfill the journey. So I advised him to revisit the Transnasional ticketing counter to return the bus tickets for a refund.”
She says her father did that on Jan 26, and the clerk on duty took back the tickets and also wrote down her father's contact details, with the promise to call him after she managed to resell his tickets.
On his way home from the bus terminal, SELVARANI’s father received a phone call from the ticketing clerk asking him to return there.
“My father thought the clerk had sorted out his refund, so he immediately headed back to the terminal. To
his surprise, the clerk refused to refund or give back the tickets. To his utter disbelief, he was asked to pay a penalty fee of RM47," she claims.
“Since then, my dad was harassed twice over the phone by the clerk, demanding that he pay the penalty.
This mistreatment of my father is unjust."
• A spokesperson for Konsortium Transnasional Berhad says the company does not have a policy of refunding ticket cancellations, as detailed in the terms and conditions printed on all tickets. However, the spokesperson Bus company has a 'no refund' policy says the ticketing agent took the liberty of reselling the tickets on behalf of SELVARANI's father, as a favour, in order for him to get back his money.
“We would like to affirm that we do not refund cancellations.
We have spoken to SELVARANI and explained the matter to her,” says the spokesperson, adding that the ticketing agent did not harass SELVARANI’s father at any point in time and that SELVARANI has confirmed to them that such harassment did not happen.
The spokesperson thanks SELVARANI for her feedback and says Konsortium Transnasional will educate its ticketing agents to improve their level of services to passengers.
When contacted by Hotline, SELVARANI confirms that her father has received the refund from Transnasional and she is happy that all matters have been resolved amicably.

Sometimes I wonder was there a condition for ticket exchange stated on the ticket? But yet when we book ticket early, have you wonder what are the consequences if you change the travelling date early or later. And how close the date of exchange to your actual journey date, do have consequences on the value of your actual ticket where you need to topup for a new ticket of the similar trip?
Its day light robbery. The cancelled ticket is not a lost to the company, since no refund was made. What if its taken by another passenger, is the company going to give a bonus to the passenger who surrender the ticket and lost the actual value? To be fare any tickets taken must be exchange for another ticket of similar value or more with no condition attached, limited to one or two per exchange.
