'Cop who kept sex slave not above the law'

KUALA LUMPUR: No one is above the law — not even a policeman.

That is the stand of Kedah police chief Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan when contacted to comment on the case of a policeman who was alleged to have assaulted a woman he had an affair with over the past 10  years.

News of the abuse and allegations the suspect had kept the woman as his sex slave was splashed in the media on Tuesday.

The woman reportedly claimed that the policeman had hit,  choked and kicked her numerous times over the years, as well as fed her only bread and plain water.

She also claimed to have been raped by an unidentified man on Jan 14.

She lodged a police report two days later, after going to hospital for treatment.

"Just because he is a policeman, it does not mean that he can get away with whatever crime he has allegedly committed. Action will be taken against him if they turn out to be true. There is no exception," Syed Ismail said.

He said the policeman, a 47-year-old lance corporal attached to the Kulim police headquarters, has been with the Kedah contingent for seven years.

"He was attached to the Penang police contingent for three years before being transferred here.

He was transferred because he had abused his power to trap the woman's husband."

He said no disciplinary action had been taken yet as investigations were still ongoing.

The woman, a beautician in her 40s, also believed the man may have used black magic as, even though she was scared of him, she would always agree with whatever he said.

The woman is married to another man and has an 18-year old daughter from the marriage. She claimed to have befriended the policeman, hoping that he could help her get away from her abusive husband.

She also claimed to have had nine abortions.
