SOOTHING AMBIENCE: Waxing can be a painful experience for some but at Honeypot, they make you feel calm and relaxed

Fancy a Hollywood, playboy, L'amour or butterfly?

If you have no idea what we are talking about or think that it’s a girly cocktail of sorts, perhaps it is time to educate yourself.

In the not-so-recent sex scandal photographs released of Cecilia Chung and Edison Chen, it was a topic that got everyone talking.

The raunchiness of the photographs was a secondary issue as more focus was on the 'coverage' down there. So much so that it took a while before you could make out what was what.

Yes, Hollywood, playboy, L'amour and butterfly are actually types of Brazilian waxing. While some of us still prefer the au-naturel look, Brazilian waxing is fast becoming a trend in Asia and of course Malaysian girls have become loyal consumers.

Honeypot Wax boutique which opened its store in Malaysia recently is set to take the KL wax scene by storm.

Doing all sorts of wax jobs, the boutique specialises in Brazilian waxing and its Singapore counterpart has even won awards for it!

Quite honestly, it is no surprise why. Stepping foot into their outlet at Bangsar Shopping Centre, a first impression would be the stylishly chic décor as well as the fact that they play club music!

The colour theme is hot pink, from the wall motifs right down to the private rooms and even the wax they use, which is cherry scented too.

"I used to look for places to get my waxing done when I was in Singapore but most places either looked a little questionable or the service was really slow and sometimes took more than an hour! I then decided to open my own place which not only provides a great atmosphere but also an efficient waxing process," said Honeypot founder Ow Shin Yann.

One way that Honeypot ensures excellent service is through stringent screening of its staff.

"We try to train our staff as best as we can but some people are just not made for waxing! We look out for people with a slight garang (strict) streak as waxing needs to be fast especially in sensitive areas to minimise pain. So it is very important to only select those who fit the bill."

Honeypot also does all sorts of waxing from legs to nipples and even the face! Ow added that the most sensitive part to wax is actually not the pubic area but the back, as some people are prone to rashes and even pimples there.

"We normally ask if there is a special function coming up and we also do patch tests as through our experience, the area that does have adverse reactions sometimes would be the back — so we are extra careful."

One last word of advice given by the wax guru was this: "I have to caution you on one thing — Brazilian waxing is highly addictive!"

Wax, a bed and club music, really what is there not to love?

Honeypot wax boutique is located at S123 2nd floor, Bangsar Shopping Centre, 285 Jalan Maarof, Bangsar.

wax
A guide for "waxing virgins" by Ow Shin Yann

1. If you shave, you have to wait about three weeks for optimum hair growth before waxing. This shows best result as the hair length would be just right to be gripped by the wax.

2. Avoid places that double dip as it is very unhygienic. (Double dipping is when you apply the wax onto your body and then reuse the spatula by re-dipping it into the pot of wax! That's not just unclean but it's too gross to even imagine!

3. After your waxing experience, make sure that you go back and bathe with cold water to close your pores to prevent ingrown hair.

4. Exfoliating the waxed area twice a week with a scrub would also be a good way to ensure that you don't face the problem of ingrown hair, but do not exfoliate on the first day as it might irritate the area.

A basic Brazilian guide

The Butttterfly: Only the hair underneath is removed. Not a very popular choice but there is demand.

Hollywood: Leaves you naked as a baby where all hair is removed.

Playboy: All hair is removed, leaving a narrow strip, or a small triangle. This is slightly harder to maintain than the Hollywood as it would grow slightly out of shape after a week or so.

L’ amour: A Valentine’s Day favourite. All hair is removed leaving a heart shape. Its maintenance would be akin to the playboy.
