DID IT HAPPEN?: Leaving behind RM9,000 in a pink paper bag. – Filepic

DALJIT of Petaling Jaya is upset with the alleged lack of security at the Nissan Service Centre in Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.

On Jan 19, DALJIT sent his Nissan Urvan van for regular service at the centre at noon. When he later picked up his vehicle at 4.30pm, he accidentally left his bag at the reception desk.

"My bag contained RM9,000 cash and several important documents. When I finally remembered leaving my bag, I called the receptionist and informed her that I accidentally left it there. The receptionist, who identified herself as Viji, told me not to worry as she will be keeping the bag and I'll be able to collect it the next day," he claims.

"To my horror, when I went back there on Jan 20, my bag was found dumped in the garbage. I was told that Viji was late for work that day and someone else must have come early to the office, took away the money and then thrown the bag and documents into the garbage dump. It was so unbelievable."

DALJIT then tried to complain to the branch manager.

"At the time, the manager was not in and I was told the  company was not liable for any damage or loss of belongings. I had no choice but to lodge a report at the Sentul Police station," he says, adding that he wants a full explanation and also that his money be reimbursed by the company.

● A spokes person for the customer  service manager at the Nissan Service Department, clarifies:

"On Jan 19, DALJIT came to pick up his Nissan Urvan at the Jalan Ipoh service centre at approximately 4.30pm and left thereafter.

"Before the closure of the centre, Viji, one of our staff members, found a pink-coloured paper  bag on the chair and thought it was rubbish left behind by a customer, so she decided to put it aside on the lower shelf of the steering lock display rack in the reception lounge for the cleaner to clear out the next  morning.

"On the same day, at 8pm, DALJIT came to our service centre and wanted to check whether he had left his bag at the reception lounge area.

"The guard on duty allowed him in and he noticed his pink coloured paper bag on the lower shelf of the steering lock display rack in the reception lounge.

"On the same night, DALJIT called Viji on her mobile and mentioned he had left his pink-coloured paper bag in our premises and suggested to her that he would pick it up first thing the next morning.

"Our cleaning service provider start their duty at 7.30am. The cleaner saw the bag and assumed it was rubbish and put it into the common garbage bag with other waste, such as paper cups containing leftover coffee and tea.

"These are the common wastes in the reception and waiting area. As a norm, the cleaner would take the garbage and dispose them into the main garbage bin located in the service centre compound."

According to the spokesperson, DALJIT returned to the Jalan Ipoh service centre at 9am on Jan 20 and spoke to Viji, asking for his bag but was later informed by her that the bag is gone.

"After checking with the cleaner, the cleaner informed that she saw the bag and thought it was garbage left behind by a customer and had disposed of it in the main bin. It is a very common circumstance where, at times, our customers would leave bags of rubbish behind.

"DALJIT's pinkcoloured paper bag was retrieved from the main garbage bin, but unfortunately it was soaked with leftover coffee and tea and a few loose notes and some documents were found," she says.

"It must be pointed out that DALJIT left the bag in the reception area at 4.30pm on Jan 19, which was a peak period in the service workshop where many customers come in to pick up their vehicles. But even assuming that his claim of RM9,000 cash in the bag is genuine, another customer could have taken it away.

"DALJIT had reported to our service manager, citing different amounts of cash that was missing, starting with RM3,000, and then RM5,000 and now claiming it was RM9,000. Considering that RM9,000 is a hefty sum, he could have come over or contacted us immediately.

"There is really no way we could authenticate his claim that the bag contained any cash.

"In conclusion, we strongly feel that we are not responsible for his negligence as the bag was placed in a public waiting area without our knowledge.

"We have since contacted DALJIT but he has yet to revert to us on the question raised as to exactly what was  the amount of cash he claimed to have lost and in what denominations."

beware this conman. his modis operandi is simple, carry a pink bag and leave it AT YOUR PLACE. then accuse you of taking his money. He will try all means to make you pay for what he claim 'your negligence', it happened at your property etc. Nissan why dont you publish his Nissan Urvan plate no? lol. I would like to spy on him and rob him off the pink bag. Its probably nothing, just some capati and condoms. He is rich, no doubt. Probably owns a sundry shop or owns a restaurant. typical bargain hunter, wants everything free or heavily discounted (ie buy a can of milo free tissue paper, but wants to pay for the tissue paper and ask for the free milo). ps: even if its true, dont blame the cleaners. I dont even blame the people who took the money if his claims are true.

That is what and why cleaners do such jobs as they may not have the capacity to think as they dont get paid to think. So dont blame the cleaner for not having the time or capacity to think.Surely if they keep opening every silly bag to look inside, one will will not finish doing their job ..and every one will say ..what a lazy cleaner it is ....but the real silly stupid, careless, irresponsible and good for nothing culprit here is DALJIT, himself. His story smells fishy, a ploy to cheat and lie to his teeth. He is the person who is thinking less than even the cleaner,....as after his OWN negligence....he blames the car Firm ....what a prat he is...I feel sorry for his wife ...if he looses her one day ....he will blame the next nicer looking man ....bet ???daljit get a life and learn to be responsible...

Why sooo careless. Every time I go to service my car, I take everything important including my coins. How can you forget RM9000 ? What kind of person are you ?

Maybe they charge him a fortune when he serviced his car there.

Daljit must be a very rich man because he could leave 9000 lying around and forgot about it. Any sane person would hold it tightly or even fill up their pockets. Daljit, please don't blame others for your own carelessness. The service center is not responsible for any money or valubles things left inside the car for servicing. You are trying to let others to commit a crime.

a fool and his money....you know how the addage goes daljit. lesson learned. oh btw daljit, what were you doing with that amount of money?

Submitted by Anonymous on Friday, February 5th, 2010.
Both the cleaner and daljit are stupid. daljit should have go back immediately to get it back and the cleaner should have look inside the bag before throwing it into the garbage. stupid cleaner cleaning without using brain.

IAre you suggesting that all cleaners should look inside all plastic bags before throwing it into the garbage bins?? Please be fair to the cleaners.

Finder keepers, loser weepers! Whether it is RM1 or RM9000, however if I lose RM9000, would I have left it overnight? Definitely not! Since the guard have let him in and he has seen the bag there, he should have insisted with the guard to call someone in authority to allow him to claim his bag which is loaded with money. To even go off without the bag that same night and claiming it is fill with RM9000 is full of rubbish. If he has RM9000 cash, he must have proof where he got it from. Nobody walks around with RM9000 in their bag without being given it on the same day. So it is up to Daljit to prove he did have RM9000 with him. The story Daljit is spinning is full of holes, it is too corny to be true. If the bag was found the night before, and there was that much money in there, I would have ensured whoever finds it to confirm that the money is still in there before even making any appointment to pick it up on the same day. The company should charged Daljit for making false accusations!

Alamak what a tall story. I would go back there immediately if i had left behind 900 ringgit let alone 9000.

daljit is trying to make fast buck from the thin air. not coming back upon noticing that he left the money is totally unacceptable. after all is it truly rm9,000 or a mere rm9?

Submitted by zz on Thursday, February 4th, 2010.
daljit..come on...dont put the blame on other people with your own carelessness. you are careless in this. a normal person would not leave RM9000 in a service center overnight. by hook or by crook, you will get it on that night itself. just take it as faith that you had lost RM9000.

I feel he is lying, maybe he did have some money but not in the various amounts that he claims. Anyway why should somebody else be penalised for ones own negligence. Its a bonus if the people at the service center had kept the bag safe otherwise it just his own doing, so don't complain. It is just like some people who let their children play on the road and blames everyone but themselves if something untoward happens.

sadly, one has to say ...a very negligent daljit!WHY did he not return at once to take back the bag.he came in with the guard...why not take it away then.I would not blame the centre neither it is their responsibility or their negligence.Next time dont carry so much around carelessly.Perhaps the money was not all thrown away ...but who can prove that.
