KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Nasir Safar, a former aide of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, today made a public apology to all Malaysians over remarks he made in Melaka on Tuesday which have been deemed to be racist.

In a statement here, Nasir said he had taken cognisance of the various reactions that have arisen among Malaysians following the speech he made during a 1Malaysia seminar held at the Melaka International Convention Centre.

"I have already clarified that I had no intention to make statements that were racist in nature or insulting to any community. Nevertheless, some quarters think otherwise and I am apologising over any mistake (on my part)," he said.

Nasir said he had also resigned from his post as an aide to the prime minister in taking responsibility over the matter.

"Once again I wish to make an open apology to all Malaysians over the remarks which are deemed to be racist, athough I never intended it as such," he added.

Nasir also said he was confident that the 1Malaysia concept mooted Najib was the best approach to further strengthen multiracial harmony in the country.

Earlier today, Najib who is in Melaka, had said that the 1Malaysia vision would not be hampered as a result of Nasir's remarks as they did not reflect the stand of his administration.

Politicians regards any party should know very well that using racial slurs for political mileage and to win applaud from listeners are definitely not fit to be politician. Good politicians are the one that can build the nation with Peace and Prosperity and should be able to look into the welfares of the rakyats. People don't vote sandiwara politicians. Remember those who cannot perform must quit.

You are the MAN for owning up but I have got a funny feeling that there is udang sebalik batu. How can a man with such a long political experience be running his mouth off without his head on.

It is very sad that in an age of enlightenment the so called information age that we can resort to such statements to lift onesself or community so as to put down others. We all face the same challenges, worries, financial concerns educational for ourselves and our children. I see young people being poisoned by the irresponsible rhetoric of ambitious politicians who will sell their mothers to forward their own agenda. It is my hope that right thinking, moral and god fearing people of all races all communities will stand up and in one voice send a clear messsage that such actions will not be tolerated.
