Alert the newbies

What happens when the illequipped are thrown into the limelight?

Well, they make fools of themselves when they rant on endlessly about how things don't live up to their expectations.

In the case of most shell-shocked newbies, when they enter the entertainment business, usually it's the basking in the limelight which they enjoy.

Yet, some gripe about it when the attention crosses their personal borders of comfort.

Take, for example, a little-known newcomer named Ammar Alfian Aziz (right).

While it's noted we have never mentioned him, we will give him due credit for his talent in the Tari Tirana series. However, being thrust into the spotlight seems to have had its effect on Ammar when he allegedly unleashed his fury on social networking site, Facebook.

Laced with expletives, he was said to have condemned journalists in general and threatened to kill the person who allegedly cooked up some nasty bits on him.

Well, first of all, perhaps someone should explain to this 22 year old that there are laws in this country that he can always resort to, apart from showing up his lack of vocabulary to express himself, or highlight his personal battle against bad spelling.

Like every other person in the country, he has a right to protect himself, but unfortunately he resorted to lowering himself to the level of the very person he intended to condemn. Hitting out at many by generalising the profession of journalism is not a good idea.

For anyone who has withstood the test of time in this business, it’s not about kow-towing to the media. It’s about mutual respect to maintain a symbiotic relationship. It's sad, but so many new talents fall along the wayside for their lack of ability to communicate well.

Noh of Hujan is the poster boy of reform when it comes to souring media relations and seeing the error of his ways. In a short period from when he shunned the Press, he has now come to terms that it ultimately boils down to getting people to appreciate his craft.

Let this be a lesson to all newcomers to the business.

Don't skip the common sense and courtesy classes before you intend to reap the benefits of life in the limelight.

too phat
The return of Too Phat!

While they both went their separate ways to focus on their personal solo projects, Joe (left) and Malique of Too Phat have always remained vague on the future of the hip-hop duo itself. Now they've thrown a teaser out to the public, that the act will 'reunite' after a long hiatus.

Word is — the duo are working together in the studio for a new project in 2010.

Perhaps the time off from each other will come in handy and we hope lyrical poetry can be expected in the months to come from Too Phat.

Mystic mahyem

MORE on artistes resorting to the supernatural. One actress has confessed how afraid she is of one peer in the business.

Having crossed her path once, the former has been spooked by unexplained events, which upon
seeking traditional cures, revealed that it was supposedly the work of a prim and proper actress who has
always been speaking out against the use of such things.

And this is not the first episode where the mentioned actress has resorted to 'eliminating' her competition.
Those who have worked with her swear behind her back that she has taken on various mystic aids to
help her.

Pooh-pooh them in public and then rely on them? Trying to throw people off the scent? Or just over
active imaginations?

Konsert Melodi has big names lined up

Indonesian singer Rossa will be performing in a her first solo concert outside of Indonesia at the Konsert Melodi scheduled for May 29 at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil.

The event, backed by Media Prima, will have performances by Pasha (from Indonesian band, Ungu), ST12 and Anugerah Juara Lagu's big winner, Aizat (right).

The event, which is a collaborative effort between Media Prima, limaduabelas musik and Marctensia however has come under fire by certain quarters.

Apparently, some members of the local music fraternity are complaining that local outfits were so keen to
bring in Rossa while bigger local acts struggle to find sponsors to back them for a big show.

Prism break

The recent event to hand out cheques for royalty payments and a dialogue with the members of Performers and Artistes Rights Malaysia Sdn Bhd turned out to be quite an exciting affair.

Not so much the actual three-hour episode which dragged on, but the break in between.

Not only was a poison pen letter distributed, some attendees appeared to be there to rally support for an organisation which has been vocal about Prism's inadequacies.

Now is that playing dirty? If the other association was really involved in going to town to make Prism look bad, then it's really sad that they have resorted to such measures.

Get your house in order before you want to tell others how to run their own affairs.

It's the voice behind the mic

Is she a young diva wannabe, or perhaps just in the midst of getting the wrong advice? At a recent event, organisers were hardly amused when the manager of the artiste in question, complained about the dinky microphones used for the event, claiming that it was below expectations and how it would not function to show the abilities of the artiste.

Strangely enough, not only has the artiste in question been booed before for her performance which lacked any real vocal quality — another more established act went on without any problems with the equipment.

How delusional some can be.
