Emotional moment for residents of Rumah Titian Kasih
KUALA LUMPUR: Seventy five women of Rumah Titian Kasih (RTK) in Persiaran Titiwangsa, who were slapped with an eviction notice on June 17 by the houseowner, were relocated to another RTK in Lorong Maran today.
It was an emotional moment as the residents, aged between two-months and 75, some of whom are disabled, stepped out of the shelter home at 11am.
Many were seen crying while other tried hard to hide their emotion and burst into tears.
"I have lived here for the past seven months and there is so many memories here. We are like a family. My heart aches having to see our home for the last time," said wheel-chair bound Rospalelah Mohd Noor.
The 45-year-old stroke patient hoped that the other home, which was meant for men, would be as welcoming and comfortable as their old RTK.
Another resident, Nur Diana Rasuli, 24, a disabled person, threw tantrum when told that they had to move out.
She only relented when one of the residents promised her a plate of 'mee goreng' (fried mee) as a treat.
"I don't want to move out. I am very sad. Thank you. Goodbye to everyone. I love you," she told reporters who were watching the drama unfolded in front of the shelter home this morning.
Umno Youth Community Complaints Bureau chairman Datuk Muhd Khairun Aseh, who was there with other members to assist the relocation, said the residents had no choice but to move out today, failing which, they could be arrested for contempt of court.
"This harmless rape victims, old people and disabled are named as defendants in the legal suit. They came to me for help on Monday. Just look at them. How could anyone call them defendants?," he asked, adding that the Bureau erected two tents in front of the other RTK to provide logistical assistance.
Meanwhile, RTK operator Sharifah Adlan, better known as 'Mak Pah', said the new house would be very crowded as there was already 45 men living there.
"Now with 120 people occupying the home, which only have five rooms. I do not know how we are going to manage in the long run," said Mak Pah, in tears.
It was reported that the homeowner decided to terminate the long term tenancy agreement after just one year.
The house was put on sale last October with an asking price of RM2.7mil. However the home could not afford it.
A donor has since came up with 10% of the purchase price (RM270,000) but it was not enough to buy over the house.
Charity dinner to raise fund
A CHARITY dinner themed "Malam Amal Titian Kasih 2010" will be held on July 25 at De Palma Hotel in Ampang from 8 - 11pm to raise fund to help the residents of the shelter home.
Tables for 10 persons are priced from RM1,000 to RM5,000 for each table. There will also be special performances by the residents during the dinner.
Bookings will be open at least a week before the event.
