Indonesian woman gets two years' jail for throwing dead baby boy

JOHOR BARU: An Indonesian woman was jailed two years' by the magistrate's court here today after she plead guilty to throwing away her dead baby boy.

Magistrate Mazana Sinin ordered that the sentence on Juliati, 27, start from July 12, the date of her arrest.

Juliati was charged with secretly throwing her dead baby in some bushes in Kampung Teluk Serdang, off Jalan Camar 15, Taman Perling, at 4.30am on July 10.

The charge under Section 318 of Penal Code provides for two years' jail or fine or both upon conviction.

Juliati and her housemate Yanti Yulianti, 27, were also sentenced four months' jail each after they pleaded guilty to entering the country illegally.

They pleaded guilty to committing the offence at 585, Kampung Teluk Serdang, pinggir Jalan Camar 15, Taman Perling at 4.30pm on July 12.

The charge under Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 provides for five years' jail or RM10,000 fine or both upon conviction.

Mazana however ordered that the four months' jail sentence run concurrently with the other jail sentence starting July 12.

Deputy public prosecutor Norazlina Azamuddin prosecuted while the two Indonesian women were not represented by counsel.
