Yeoh, Liu on COLLISION COURSE over Subang park

GREEN FIGHTERS: Yeoh (seated left) and representatives of the Subang Jaya Residents’ Association yesterday
Expressing disappointment, they said Subang Jaya residents had spoken loud and clear at a public hearing in 2007 that Subang Ria Park should remain a park which complied with the usage of land as stipulated.
They were expressing their discontentment at Local Government, Studies and Research Committee chairman Ronnie Liu who said in a statement: "If we cannot convince the private company that owns the park land to keep most of it as a public amenity, we won't say no to having a small part of it developed."
The association's chairman, A. S. Gill, said since the developer had withdrawn the application to develop the place, on what basis did Liu say part of it could be developed?
Yeoh said that Liu's statement indicated that the Selangor State government had neither respect nor intention to comply with State or Federal laws.
"Under the Town and Country Planning Act, there should be two hectares of green space for every 1,000 residents and Subang Jaya has an estimated 70,000 residents," she said. "But is it possible for the Selangor State government to create 140 hectares of green space for the residents when Subang Ria Park is only 25 hectares, excluding the water?
"Subang Jaya doesn't even have a town park to begin with," she added.
For several years, residents have been campaigning for the park to be gazetted as a green lung.
It was believed that the developer had promised the residents that the park would remain after Wangsa Baiduri and SS12 were developed. However, for several years the land title has yet to be transferred to the local council and is still under Sime UEP Sdn Bhd.
