Bukit Antarabangsa landslide 'clean-up' progressing, says MPAJ
BUKIT Antarabangsa will be fully cleared of debris and mud left behind from a major landslide in December by the end of September or the latest by year-end.
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council public relations officer Norhayati Ahmad said four companies have been contracted by the Public Works Department to carry out the job.
"The three packages comprise soil nailing and slope strengthening along Jalan Wangsa 9, slope enhancement at Taman Bukit Jaya and the landslide effected areas," she said.
Norhayati said the packages are scheduled to be completed by the end of September or the latest by the end of the year. However, the landslide affected areas, which includes strengthening the slopes, ground repairs and cleanup of the entire land is targeted to be completed by the end of next year.
She said the residents of Bukit Antarabangsa should report to the council if they feel any ground movement, especially during a heavy downpour.
"We have an engineering team that we have specially allocated to handle such problems in Bukit Antarabangsa," she said.
Meanwhile, Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Abd Jalil Hassan in a report said the retaining wall which is still in the process of being built in Bukit Antarabangsa is 40 per cent completed.
He said work at the site started soon after the government approved a RM70 million allocation to strengthen the hillslopes following the landslide which damaged 14 bungalows and claimed the lives of five at Taman Bukit Mewah and Taman Bukit Utama.
Abd Jalil said residents who were asked to vacate their homes following the incident should not worry about the safety of their belongings as police were still monitoring the area.
