FRUSTRATED: A poor season so far for Safee

SELANGOR poacher Safee Sali admits this has not been a great season for him. The Tapah-born revealed that he has enjoyed better games in the past and that his scoring abilities have been affected by his personal expectations.

“I’m really frustrated,” said a rather dejected Safee. “Honestly speaking, this is not me … this is not how I play football.

“I know I can do better but so far, this has been a poor season for me. Perhaps I’ve placed unnecessary pressure upon myself to deliver the goals.”

Nevertheless, Safee has been instrumental in aiding Selangor in bagging the Charity Shield and FA Cup. Now, the national striker believes Selangor are able to nail the Super League.

Selangor whacked troubled MyTeam 4-1 at the PJ Stadium on Saturday. Hardi Jaafar started the ball rolling in the 21st minute while Safee inked his name on the scoresheet in the 47th minute — his 10th goal of the season. R. Surendran and C. Premnath netted the other goals while MyTeam got their solitary goal through Khaironisam Shahabuddin.

The win maintained Selangor’s lead at the top of the table with 54 points after 23 matches. Perlis trail closely, two points adrift. Both teams have another three more matches to go before the season ends. Selangor host Kedah’s Kuala Muda in Shah Alam tomorrow.

“I know we can do it. Not to underestimate our opponents but the odds are stacked against Perlis. We’re playing against several lower rung teams in the Klang Valley while Perlis are playing against several strong sides.

“There are three more matches left and I’m confident of Selangor making it.”

A big Manchester United fan who adores Wayne Rooney and Christiano Ronaldo, Safee is hoping to see his name on the team sheet when the English giants take on the Malaysian Selection on July 18.

“It’s disappointing as Ronaldo is no longer with the team, but it’s still a dream come true to play against the best club in the world. “I’ve not heard anything to date but I really do hope to see my name on the list.”
