Button confident of returning to winning ways in Nuerburgring

LEADER Jenson Button is confident he can return to winning ways at this weekend’s German Grand Prix. Button’s storming run of four successive victories was brought to a halt in disappointing fashion on home soil last month when he could only manage sixth place at Silverstone.

The 29-year-old Brawn GP driver bemoaned the English weather as cool conditions meant he was unable to get sufficient heat on his tyres around a notoriously fast circuit. The climate in the Eifel mountains, home of the Nuerburgring, will not be too far removed from those experienced in Northamptonshire.

But it is a circuit considerably more to the liking of a car that will also possess a number of new upgrades.

Button, who holds a 23-point lead over teammate Rubens Barrichello, said: “The Nuerburgring is a tricky circuit but there are two key characteristics which should be good for our car.

“It is a relatively slow circuit with a lot of medium-speed corners, which are one of the car’s strengths. The Nuerburgring is also one of the heaviest braking circuits on the calendar, so you need a car which will be good through the four heavy braking zones.

“With the extra week’s break, everyone has been working extremely hard in preparation for this race to get the best package. We’re looking forward to showing what the car can do after a disappointing weekend by our standards at the British Grand Prix.

“My last race at Silverstone showed the pace of the car is really competitive, so we’re confident we can turn it around at this race,” he said.
