MUST BE CONSISTENT

ENGLISH language has its twists and turns but according to media reports, "the Cabinet's decision last week to abolish the teaching of science and mathematics in English is final".

The Deputy PM said "that although there were calls for the policy to be retained at the secondary school level, the government must be consistent in its stand not to maintain the status quo. Each (Cabinet) decision must be consistent. (The views) may have rationale because they are based on experience, and I'm not saying that they are not good, but in this context, we must be consistent after making such a big decision", he said.

Yes, the status quo needs to go, YAB.

NATIONAL LAUREATE

A LEADING light of the abolish English for science and maths campaign has a new book.

The media reports that the Higher Education Ministry and the Malaysian National Institute of Translation (MNIT) will hold a road show nationwide to promote A. Samad Said's book, Bisik Warna.

Deputy Minister for Higher Education said "the book was a work of arts (sic) and words from the national laureate on life, organisations, leaders and philosophy". He commended the setting up of BM book corners in stores and urged "university vice-chancellors, deputy vice-chancellors and professors to lead by example by writing books".

These bureaucrats are well-placed to create literary works and hopefully MNIT will translate these masterpieces for the larger public. Syabas.

This is a travesty. What happened to the voice of the people? Oh yeah, the citizens have no say. Democracy? Yeah right!
