POWER MIX: Catch Yin Yang Twins at Bukit Kiara this Saturday‘

POWER packed hip hop duo Ying Yang Twins is all set to take the place of headlining act Lil Jon at Artistry's The Global Art of Mixing taking place this Saturday at Bukit Kiara Indoor Arena.

Lil Jon recently announced that he will not be able to perform at the event due to unforeseen circumstances in the United States and sent his sincerest apologies to fans for missing the opportunity to perform in Malaysia.

Ying Yang Twins debuted in 2000 with the single Whistle While You Twurk, from the album Thug Walkin', which was a musical stroll through the lives of D-Roc and Kaine. It was a hot pick on many urban and pop radio stations and peaked at Number 16 on the US R&B and Hip-Hop chart.

They became famous when they toured with Juz tha King, Kat Nu and Demo Dil on the King Me tour. In 2002, the group appeared on the album Kings of Crunk by Lil Jon on the single Get Low. The song was a huge club and radio hit, and the duo subsequently signed a deal with TVT Records.

"Where I come from, real thugs have heart. They listen to reason. They're not fake. Every time they get drunk or high they getting all loud with somebody. Naw, our definition of a thug is just somebody trying to get through life in the ghetto," said Kaine, who says that thug walkin' is what they do everyday.

The twins grew up in rough and rowdy East Atlanta, a place that has seen its share of violence and poverty.

"It's a rough hood, but people looked out for one another when we were coming up," revealed Kaine (Eric Jackson) who has known his Saturday‘twin' D-Roc (D' Angelo Holmes) for six years.

Despite the roughness of their neighbourhood, D-Roc and Kaine found their way out of trouble through music. Back then, the two drew inspiration from old school hip-hop as well as Atlanta's town bass scene and synthesising them into something new - the early beginnings of the ‘crunk' phenomenon.

Shortly after their deal went sour, the duo made a guest appearance on ATL's legendary DJ Smurf's Dead Crunk LP. After hearing the chemistry between the two on his record, DJ Smurf suggested that they ought to stay together as a group instead of pursuing solo careers.

"I came up with the idea for the Ying Yang twins," said Kaine. "I brought it by D-Roc, he liked it, so we ran from there."

Their first album for the label, Me & My Brother went platinum in April 2005 and saw three more hits - Whats Happnin!, Naggin and the popular Lil Jon collaboration Salt Shaker, which has created a storm in clubs all over the world.

In 2008, the Twins released the mixtape The Official Work with a single Drop and are now working to release their latest album with Deep Records,Ying Yang Forever.

With an entourage of reviews hailing the tag-team of crunk, they are set to join Fatman Scoop, DJ Camilo, Dominique Tsai, The Homies and the rest of the dream line-up at the upcoming Artistry The Global Art of Mixing stage.
